I’d love to be able to knit. My gran tried to teach me, it was not a success 😂

beargrass · 26/09/2020 19:57

It doesn't say they can't be critical of government.

Exactly. Pesky facts, and publicly available ones as well.

jj1968 · 26/09/2020 19:58

@ErrolTheDragon

It's perfectly possible to support the clauses on gender, which I do

That's what the thread was supposed to be discussing. If you support that why didn't you start another thread on the parts you object to instead of derailing this one? Hmm

Because I think the other clauses are relevent when it comes to who will be allowed to provide RSE lessons, and who potentially won't.

Yes it does. All the government has to say is that they consider these claims unsubstantiated, like when Women's Aid launched a fierce campaign against VAWG cuts, and schools are unlikely to take the risk.

Crochet is much easier than knitting. You can teach yourself off the internet easily. Very soothing too. Quite meditative when you get into the rhythm.
ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2020 20:04

Bollocks. So long as there actually is evidence, they'd be bloody foolish to try it.

Sexnotgender · 26/09/2020 20:05

I shall check out crochet. Could do with something soothing right now.

Roseburn · 26/09/2020 20:08

You can get addicted to trying different yarns and that then leads to spinning your own yarn, and a spinning wheel And then that's not enough and you need your own sheep. Be warned.

highame · 26/09/2020 20:11

My gran tried to teach me to knit too. They blamed my lack of skill on being left handed. Can't crochet either.

I suppose I'll have to become right handed now, Oh shit

beargrass · 26/09/2020 20:13

Substantiated evidence is the literal WORST

I wasn’t allowed a goat so a sheep will one a no too.

Will be*

Have you tried Continental Knitting? It's left handed. It looks so much more elegant than British knitting too.
FloralBunting · 26/09/2020 20:16

jj doesn't believe in conspiracies, tho. Can't be that.

We may never know why jj thinks a government department might consider safeguarding an important duty when the government is right of centre, as we all know that right wing people eat babies for breakfast and can never make good decisions. Although I doubt that will mean jj will stop posting about their sudden concerns about an announcement they were shrugging off as nothing earlier.

I'm quite sure everyone reading has a good grasp of all this.Grin

Have you ever tried cross stitching?

It's basically the paint by numbers of the needling world, so it's easy to pick up, and very soothing.

JamieLeeCurtains · 26/09/2020 20:17

I was taught knitting in primary school while the boys were taught woodwork.

Ditto netball v football.

And at home, housework v free time.

I think that's one of the reasons I was envious of their boys' lives tbh.

Roseburn · 26/09/2020 20:20

An Angora rabbit?

Some people knit dog hair too. 🤔

JellyFishSquish · 26/09/2020 20:20

I want a ‘clitoral violence’ t-shirt. Not knitted.

highame · 26/09/2020 20:25

Roseburn if I can't knit in English, then for sure foreign knitting is really going to screw me up 😂

I like the idea of sewing by numbers but I can actually paint and draw, and I mastered that one with my left hand. Is there anything else I can learn perhaps Macramé myself a goat or a sheep

Roseburn · 26/09/2020 20:26

And of course there's circular knitting, where you go round in circles.

highame · 26/09/2020 20:28

Aahh, back to the trans debate, squaring the old circle.

What sort of stuff requires circular knitting? drainpipes?

JamieLeeCurtains · 26/09/2020 20:29

I must insist on 'Clitoral Violets'

highame · 26/09/2020 20:34

Anything like Palma Violets?

JellyFishSquish · 26/09/2020 20:35

@highame

Circular knitting is two knitting needles that are connected as one. So jumpers are not knitted as front and back and then sewn together, they are knitted in the round. Good for fair isle patterns and Orkney peerie designs. My grandmother taught me, and showed me how to carry multiple colours.

But really, I need a clitoral violence t-shirt designed for me. Someone.

HecatesHat · 26/09/2020 20:39

Seem to remember it was knitters tying themselves in knots over #diversknitty that provided lots of commentators with an excellent case study of a 'purity spiral'.
