What do you make of this?

Personally I’m fine with this. Can’t wait for FB 3!

@wellbehavedwomen

He's got a bloody good publicist, is my main feeling.
Yes, it's excellent of its type. And certainly better than most of the others (except Coltrane, of course)
WarOnWomen · 24/09/2020 11:45

That's the kind of response I like from actors. I don't need to know their opinions. Damn sight better that Eddie Raymane's

CallarMorvern · 24/09/2020 11:54

Opened this thread with trepidation. But I'll go along with that answer Smile

TweeBree · 24/09/2020 12:00

This guy has 6 kids with 4 different women, at least one of which he doesn't bother with. Did he get asked about that? Trying to imagine a woman getting through an interview and that not coming up.

fatblackcatspaw · 24/09/2020 12:00

Careful butt covering! but yeah better than the trash talking youngies.. how IS Daniel Radcliffe et al 'careers' going?

Goosefoot · 24/09/2020 12:05

@Babdoc

Respectful dialogue is rather difficult in the face of “no debate”, cancel culture, and rape and death threats, no?
I think that's his point, isn't it. That if you cancel people and don't listen when they say something you don't like, you are not going to get respectful dialogue, therefore no change.
Beamur · 24/09/2020 12:05

Diplomatic answer. A perfectly reasoned and reasonable response.

TheVanguardSix · 24/09/2020 12:06

It's a diplomatic response.

FWRLurker · 24/09/2020 12:09

This I think should be read as a message of support. If he disagreed there’d be nothing stopping him.

IntermittentParps · 24/09/2020 12:18

If he disagreed, he’d have said so for the woke points.

I don't agree. I think he is deliberately and carefully not committing to anything.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 24/09/2020 12:19

Well thank fuck the finest minds are weighing in Confused

IntermittentParps · 24/09/2020 13:15

Include, by that do you mean Jude Law? If so, the point surely is that he's been asked a frankly provocative and dirt-digging question and is answering it skilfully by not committing to anything.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/09/2020 13:36

I'm fine with his response.

Unlike many other notable names in the Potterverse he's not slagging off JKR for lurvie/woke points - something that would have been easy to do.

That's actually in itself a big thing from such a high profile actor.

It might come across as fence sitting but actually refusing to engage with the pile on is in an of itself a tacit indicator of support for JKR if only in the sense that it acknowledges her right to speak out.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/09/2020 13:38

Yes... and, being a man, he may get away with it.

SebastianTheCrab · 24/09/2020 13:42

@Lordamighty

He staying neutral which is fine by me & better than trotting out the nonsense that the younger actors do. Let’s be honest though Jude Law knows exactly what a woman is.
Well he's knocked up enough of them!

I don't really think you can read his message as support though because if this was an IV to promote Fantastic Beasts the Warner PRs aren't going to encourage readers to boycott their own movie via one of the actors in it.

I.e. if Law was all like "yeah! Fuck JKR the evil T*RF" then it's effectively encouraging cinema-goers to boycott the film because she wrote it/created it. By giving a wishy-washy response (evidently written by a PR) it glosses over it.

squishee · 24/09/2020 14:47

It's PR-written word salad.
"Where change lives"? What?

Translation: No comment.

Cupoftea1234 · 24/09/2020 16:17

I have no problem with his statement. It doesn't really say anything. It's better than the drivel that Daniel Radcliffe came out with.
🤢

Goosefoot · 24/09/2020 16:23

He is a good bit older than many (though not all) of the other HP types that have made public comments. And the other older ones who have criticised her have been women and alas, IME women of my own age seem to fall for all this more than men.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 24/09/2020 18:25

Good for him. I can't blame him for being a bit fence-sitty since right now. If he was on board with it, he'd spout the usual mantras.
He's clearly no Radcliffe.

GemmeFatale · 24/09/2020 20:59

The young ones need the woke points.

Radcliffe and Grint haven’t done anything of note since Harry Potter. (Perhaps I’m wrong but I’m struggling to think of anything).

Watson is perhaps the most successful of the three post HP, but she’s reaching the age at which Hollywood wants to cast women who are either considered spectacular or young.

Paddybox · 24/09/2020 21:51

Let’s be honest though Jude Law knows exactly what a woman is.

I thought the same!Wink

I agree he's got a very good publicist and I have no problem with him sitting on the fence...better than spouting shite just to appear woke and on trend

ancientgran · 24/09/2020 21:59

I think it is fine, we don't have some right to know his views on anything, he's an actor not a politician. On the other hand I have no problem with actors saying something political, they are people like the rest of us and if we can express a view so can they. It is their choice.

FractionalGains · 24/09/2020 22:00

The fact he is talking about “respectful dialogue” as opposed to squealing “no debate” shows he is, by stonewall standards, a massive transphobe.

I’ll take it. I really will.

I think its fine.

I doubt he knows much about the issue, so there is no reason for him to comment on it.
