Men who ‘woke wash’ their hatefulness

This is a rant about awful men. I have posted before about being a victim of domestic abuse. No one thinks it would happen to them but in recent days I have been thinking about how many nice men are raging mysoginists.

It is not acceptable now to openly express racist or mysoginists can views any more so men (especially white middle class men) so buying into ‘woke’ ideology is a good way of maintaining your power.

Recently for some high profile awful men have let their awfulness show and been called out on it. This was really heartening to me to see that other people (mainly women but not always) can see it and call it out.

I think the appeal of trans activism is that you can be seen as being virtuous whilst directing horrible misogyny at women. I think they sometimes push things they know will upset women so they can bully us for speaking out.

They don’t believe it themselves how could they it is so contradictory and non sensical. It makes me wonder if they believe in anything at all. If they are really racist but know that you should express anti racist views but privately don’t believe it.

The popularity of some of these men is a reflection of how many men in society hate women.

I agree that trade unions are terrible for sexism and a lot of women are put off joining them for that reason.

I think a lot of this operates at an unconscious level by people who need to be good. A prime example of this is Owen Jones you can tell that being in the side of right is a huge part of his identity. He has been massively critical of the establishment (even writing a book about it) but he is part of that now and he doesn’t use his power to help the powerless. He tried to get Suzanne Moore fired because she wrote an article he disagreed with. He justifies this by saying her views made a trans colleague feel unsafe but never questioned whether his own views might make any of his colleagues feel unsafe. His Jewish colleagues could write a much stronger letter about him but they haven’t. He knows antisemitism is bad but he still buys into it of an unconscious level and his Twitter feed is a mess between defending people he likes (Jeremy Corbin, Lloyd Russel Moyle) from antisemitism and then condemning other people for it. But would someone who is was a committed anti facist as he claims to be the go to person for defending the party from antisemitism when it was clearly happening. His attitude to the whistleblowers was awful. The passionate defender of LGBT rights even outed a Labour MP he doesn’t like in his latest book. The idea that someone’s sexuality is something you can use against them is very regressive and even I was shocked that he did that.

Antisemitism seems to be another acceptable prejudice that often accompanies the misogyny. Perhaps we should call it what is racism.
