If there are more gender clinics and process is cheaper will this mean more young women will go down the medical route?

I dont quite know why I started thinking this, but not wanting trans women who have self ided being allowed into women's spaces and services is one thing. But the opposite of that could be more young women who have fallen for the trans agenda think that if self id is not recognised then medical transition if the only option.

Hopefully it means they will get more care and a lot more than 6 'counselling' sessions (if you are lucky) for gender dysphoria before being medicalised (if at all).

It's that "hopefully" that bothers me. They've announced an inquiry into treatment so, we need to make sure the NHS are held to account for what treatment they provide. The must have "do no harm" as their highest priority.

I just worry that the review into child services isn't going to end up saying, well they may have been a bit slipshod in the procedures but the procedure / pathway to transition is correct.

I worry that it will be populated by people who are intent on making sure that children find their true and authentic self. There are a lot of those around.

I confess I read Liz Truss’s statement differently. It suggests that actually the Government are really going to look very critically at transition services and what is provided currently, and it might increase provision, but I doubt there will be a policy case because the point of self ID is that you didn’t need to do that at all.

Trans activists have just been done over. Self ID is dead, and resources will only be given to those with serious gender dysphoria, not confused teenagers.

Self ID and trans activism on that basis is dead in England and Wales. The Government has returned trans to be a medical condition, not simple feelings.

Expect also logical consequences for charities that have supported self ID. Their funding and purpose has pretty much evaporated.

NO way is self id off the agenda!

It is just on hold.

And should the Tories lose the next election expect Labour to rush through legislation to allow self id - (and probably get rid of Sex as a protected characteristic from the EA)

I'm with you OP, but this does buy us time. It may not be enough time but we can try to show Labour a way back, I'm not hopeful about our chances but we have this holding position for now and we can pause to celebrate, but momentarily.

I think LDs and Greens are lost and would never win anyway so Labour are our only chance, for an alternative and if this carries on or gets worse we will all be voting Tory!

It could be in relation to the argument that was being put forward that young people didn’t want to wait for a long time to get an treatment through the gender clinic so were buying hormones from the internet (Spain maybe?) and self medicating.

The person I know is trying to raise money to go private for surgery with the doctor that advertised on insta with mastectomy t shirts

I am hoping more gender clinics means...more actual thought goes into 'treating' rather than just fast tracking as mermaids is pressuring! Hopefully mermaids will be o more soon ayway, one can wish.

Am really hoping for more actual counselling. I know they class this as 'conversion therapy' currently, though the comparison to gay conversion therapy is hugely offensive to many gay friends who have gone through the latter..it certainly was NOT trying to see if the patient can possibly be comfortable with who they actually are, and trying to reconcile patient with themselves..

That trying to find the root issue and helping the child reconcile with their sex is classed as conversion therapy is vile to me. Especially when its known how many use 'trans' as an escape route from sexual abuse, or internalised homophobia. Infact, it needs looked at the fact that 80% of 'trans youth' if left alone will simply be gay, where when shoved on blockers, 100% of them are 'trans' adults. Thats extremely concerning and actually looks to me like the 'conversion therapy' might be from a different angle..

I think the growing publicity is helpful here.

As is the spectre of law-suits.

I imagine longer term the services for adults will be more available but access will be tightened for young people. It will require more noise and a lot more more campaigning about the safeguarding implications and the benefits of watchful waiting, but more of the public are aware and that makes the issue harder to ignore.
