Satchuel Cole, leader in the fight for racial equality in Indianapolis, lied about own race

Satchuel Cole, a highly visible community leader advocating for racial and social justice in Indiana, has apologized for misleading people about Cole's own race, saying "I have taken up space as a Black person while knowing I am white."

Cole — who uses pronouns they/them — worked with Indy10 Black Lives Matter and Indy SURJ, apologized and admitted lying in a social media post. Cole, who also was active in the LGBTQ community, did not respond to multiple phone messages and emails from IndyStar this week.

She is so obviously white that I wonder how she got away with it. I know people who are mixed race can have light skin but she is freckled and nothing about her looks anything but white.

This is such a weird trend. Though it makes total sense that the people doing this now seem to be adopting multiple "identities" (non binary my arse).

I can see how both of these people could pass as mixed race. I know a girl who is one quarter black who has blond hair and paler skin than me (I'm of Northern European descent). There was quite an interesting radio program on recently about gatekeeping of "blackness" within the community since there are so many people who identify (legitimately) as black who pass as white.
