Does anyone have a share token for this, as I'd love to read it?

Yes, me too!

From the comments, I didn't hear Hislop say it the first time but Grin

"I always remember Ian Hislop in HIGNFY saying it's a pity the Jedward twins werent't called Paul and Rick."

I enjoyed that. I think Jedward advocating the burning of JKR's new book without reading it (I mean, both of them? In one day? Nah...) is going to my latest talking point in "wtf is wrong with the world" conversations.

That took me much too long to work out...

I saw that too, Eresh! Most excellent Grin

Aren’t they getting a bit long in the tooth now, those boys? Can’t wait for all these millennials to be middle aged themselves and suddenly discover how utterly irrelevant they are to the next generation. Which I hope will be a lot more sensible.

My life goal now is to live long enough to see that.

You need to remember that Jedward is a portmanteau of John and Edward.

Igneococcus · 17/09/2020 14:47

I'm not a native English speaker but I thought my reading comprehension was pretty decent, yet I cannot make head or tail of the comments by Peter Burgess. What is he actuall trying to say?

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 17/09/2020 16:14

Nobody knows, Igneococcus; nobody knows. Hence all the comments asking him WTF he’s going on about, and if he’s on drugs Grin

In other words - don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s him!

MadBadDaddy · 17/09/2020 17:47

"The Nazis knew the secret of book-burning was to build a pyre with a whole bunch of volumes, as with the library of Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institut für Sexualwissenschaft incinerated in Berlin for its scientific research on sex. (Spooky! Rowling’s views on biological sex — ie that it exists — are controversial too. Guys, it’s an omen!)"

Interesting choice for an example - The Institut für Sexualwissenschaft performed some of the first SRS procedures. They also coined the term 'transexualism', employed trans staff members and lobbied the police to stop harassing GNC people. Small wonder the Nazis hated them.

(Naturally, the Nazis didn't burn the staff or patient records...)

Such an apt and tasteful comparison for a poor, beleaguered billionaire pulp fiction author whose burnt books have already been paid for!

Helen Dale nicked that from JK. She quote-tweeted someone threatening to burn her books by saying 'oh no, please don't' and then a way more eloquent version of the above.

It doesn't matter I suppose but I always hate it when people steal and pass things off as their own ideas.

Greencoatblue · 17/09/2020 18:04

RoyalCorgi thanks! It's so obvious once you see it Grin

They always remind me of those puppets from Big Breakfast. Still it must be nice for them to be relevant again

No way! Zig and Zag were cool.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 17/09/2020 22:35

This was my favourite of Jo Rowling’s responses to the burning brigade
