The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

The thing is, the likes of Prick News, Paris Lees, Owen Jones etc are all going to have to read the book now before they publicly comment further to avoid looking like uninformed idiots. Brilliant!

I have only read Cuckoo's Calling, I really enjoyed it but I don't want to read Troubled Blood because I am also interested in Strike and Robins stories as well so I don't want to skip!

I don't think looking like uninformed idiots has ever bothered them in the past. However...on this occasion it would be fantastic if they remained uninformed and then a good interviewer was set loose on them. Or even just a very dogged interviewer. Jeremy Paxman Vs Owen Jones. I'd buy tickets to that event.

Having binge read it on my Kindle I can confirm that's the extent of it....

Wow! How long did it take you?

THE HISTORY OF SPONGE

I'M HAVING IT

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Having binge read it on my Kindle I can confirm that's the extent of it....

Wow! How long did it take you?

In total about 9/10 hours.

Confession - I'm a fast reader...it's a relic of my degree where I was expected to read and analyse 10 plus heavy books when there was a bun fight to get them from the Uni library. As such they were restricted to loans of only a few days per book.

You either learned to read fast or spend your student loan on your own copy at the expense of food and more importantly beer/cider.

My DH couldn't believe how fast I could read when we first met and thought I was just skim reading the pages....so I got him to test me by asking detailed questions on the last book I'd "not properly" read - he's never questioned me again Grin

The downside is that I have a house that is bulging at the seams with books (I don't watch much TV) given how quickly I go through them and had to finally give in and buy a Kindle simply because of space (and my kindle has over 300 books on it now Blush).

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 16/09/2020 06:41

Oh are the Robert Galbraith books good? I've never really paid any attention to them before but am almost at the end of my unread book supply - I'll order 'Cuckoo's Calling' to try!

caughtalightsneeze · 16/09/2020 06:58

I've never had any interest in these books until now but I think I'll buy them all, whether I ever get round to reading them or not.

Hangingbasketofdoom · 16/09/2020 07:03

Thank you for the Times share

SunsetBeetch · 16/09/2020 07:04

From the KF site:

"They're angrier at JK Rowling than they are to real life serial killers who used to do it. Just saying."

SerenityNowwwww · 16/09/2020 07:13

Of course. I can imagine the ninnies scream and bravely sharing up to a 50-something woman from behind their keyboards, but an actual (male) murderer... not so brave.

I'm the same, for the same reasons. On my graduate training three of us were given a project - the two blokes opted for online research, I hit the library. We met up an hour later... "You've read a 50 page review article... you can't have in the time... she has - she's taken notes as well."

SerenityNowwwww · 16/09/2020 08:00

I used to have 3 books on the go at once - could remember plots and themes of them all too. Not I have problems remembering... what was I saying again?

Dad was a very fast reader too.

FannyCann · 16/09/2020 08:04

I had assumed Jedward had found a sense of humour and were posting in parody. Apparently not. Oh well, it's given them another fifteen minutes of fame - I had no idea they were still going. When was their previous fifteen minutes? 20 years ago?

bellinisurge · 16/09/2020 08:06

Had a long conversation with my poorly (but improving) teen dd last night. "What's all this with JKR?" She asked.
I politely explained as best I could about how there are times when sex differences are important. "Well, duh" she said. "Is that what they are getting all upset about? I thought she'd done something horrible ".
I explained that there were truly nasty people in the world who are prejudiced against anyone who dresses differently or who falls in love with their own sex. And these activists try and argue that JKR and people who think like she does are like that. I also explained about urging teens to get surgery and take drugs rather than work stuff out for themselves.
Dd gets it. Hope for the Gen Z of this world if not millennials and their kool aid.
