Anyone with an ounce of compassion for genuine dysphoria would agree that we need to know more about this condition and how to treat the distress in the least harmful ways possible.

I agree with the author that this 'true self' narrative restricts, rather than expands, our knowledge of how-to help dysphorics.

Allowing (and even encouraging) children and under-18s to have life-changing hormones and surgery seems particularly wrong once you start listening to people who've been there. Their unhappiness and sense of being an outsider hasn't actually changed.

It's an interesting article, but I find it hard to take the author seriously when she claims to be afflicted with an othering and isolating condition myself (psychic ability)
