RIP Shere Hite. And on the same day as Diana Rigg! That’s two of my youthful icons gone in one fell swoop.

Wonder if Caitlin 'I invented feminism' Moran has heard of Shere Hite?

I know! She lived in Tottenham, for god’s sake. I was boggled.

I’m pretty sure my copy got eaten by the damp in my old flat but I’ll have a look tonight see if I still have it.

I remember learning about her as a student - in history classes - completely irrelevant but our history lecturer was a massive feminist and it wasn’t hard to get her off discussing economic history and the railways and onto more interesting matters...

I read The Hite Report when I was 20 and it's such an important read, seems forgotten now.

Yes - it really is a seminal work. Everyone should read it (particularly the poster currently on AIBU having a fainting fit about masturbation. AND Caitlyn Moran).

Her book on male sexuality was an interesting read too (much longer than you’d expect given its subject matter).
