Bid to Change Sexist Definition of Woman

has anyone noticed this petition on change. It starts off by saying that we want to remove the older, little used sexist parts of the definition/alternatives which include bitch, besom, baggage, wench etc.... ok, I don't agree with their point but nothing too sinister.

Except that when you get to the definition they want it replaced by (can you guess what's coming), they want to 'Include examples representative of minorities, for example, a transgender woman, a lesbian woman'

I get petitions like this quite often. It’s a real shame because they’re petitions I’d ordinarily sign.

I think any sexist element is in the historical references which reflect the richness and age of our language if that's what you mean? - imo to erase them is to erase history.

We don't use them any more so I certainly don't object to them. If anything it demonstrates how far we have come (well until now - when we seem to be shooting back to the Victorian levels of treatment of women).

I agree. And yes I also agree the sexist definitions should be mentioned as pejoratives.

That one has been doing the rounds. No it’s not what it seems.

The problem is, that 'woman' is only sexist as a word when you think 'woman' should mean anyone of either sex and excludes male people from using their preferred name for themselves. Instead of being the word meaning the half of the human race of female biology, who are not something male people can commandeer, relabel and reorganise to better suit themselves.

Because this would be profound misogyny that tips over into male supremacism. And male supremacism is a bit..... well, not kind. And rather sexist.

Bit transparent, innit? Once we started using dictionary definitions of women, the only thing they could do to force more bending to their world view is attempt to change the definition. Yawn.
