As usual they’re doubling down & have turned off replies.

Everyone deserves to be safe - how fucking dare they say that Envy

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/09/2020 13:21

Oh, Kit, Kit Kit!

Stonewall want all women to feel safe in sport.

You obviously want them to be safe in sport. That simply is not on, m'dear. Not at all! Nope!

Kit19 · 01/09/2020 13:23

Ahhhhh thanks Curious!! THATS where I was going wrong. Now it all makes sense 😆

Stonewall, so secure in their position that they have disabled replies to the tweet.

Tell you all you need to know.

Winesalot · 01/09/2020 14:01

It does mean that people keep reading these tweets, with plenty of additional commentary, on the accounts of people that they have some level of trust for rather than simply taking SW's take on it. Of course, that would not be their communication goal, but they do continue to do it.

They would be so much better to handle each and every respectful comment with science and facts.... oh. yeah....

I cannot see how they can do anything but what they are without losing the support of the base they have made promises to. Promises that simply cannot be overlooked on the basis on science.

NearlyGranny · 01/09/2020 14:38

Interesting that 'debate' is in quotes. And replies are disabled. Looks like diktat good; discussion bad.

Stonewall aren't going to carry this one, though they're clearly confident they can. When the first woman dies on the rugby field from a broken neck or crushed skull inflicted by someone with all the physical attributes bestowed by a male adolescence, what will their response be? I hope they have it ready because it will happen if they get their way. Or it might be an AFL oval first. Whatever.

Formerly mediocre male athletes scooping the cycling medals and tennis trophies is one thing, but contact sports are life and death stakes.

merrymouse · 01/09/2020 14:55

The article itself is deliberately vague.

It says:

"A heated ‘debate’ on social media is not how any important policy should be made.

Rather, decisions on guidelines should be informed by robust evidence and developed in consultation with players and athletes with direct experience."

misleadingly implying that World Rugby haven't studied this issue thoroughly, and that Stonewall didn't try to inflame the debate on twitter AFTER the findings of the investigation were made public.

It's not clear what Stonewall's desired endgame is. Even if it were possible to specify a particular safe standard for safe competition, some people who identify as trans under Stonewall's criteria would be excluded. Stonewall might want all sports to be mixed sex, but that isn't a realistic goal.

Stonewall really seem more interested in publicising Stonewall than improving the lives and protecting rights of trans people.

wellbehavedwomen · 01/09/2020 14:56

Personally, I'm delighted Stonewall are pushing this. It doesn't so much allow daylight, as focus a searchlight on the sheer fucking insanity of their position.

Sport has nothing to do with gender identity, and everything to do with biological sex.

JellySlice · 01/09/2020 15:26

"Everyone deserves to be safe playing their sport."

So they agree with World Rugby! Excellent news.

Oh, wait, I forgot. Stonewall use the Humpty Dumpty version of the English language:

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master—that's all."

It’s vital that when they make decisions on inclusion, sports bodies like World Rugby use data that is high quality and specific to both the sport and the level at which the game is being played

Oh do not worry, they are

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/09/2020 15:51

It feels like deliberate misinformation from Stonewall to play to an audience who won't have bothered and don't intend to bother reading about it in greater depth. Smear the opponent for popular approval with your fan base. Won't wash once it's given daylight beyond Twitter.
