Iranian Child Murder

This is so sad and terrifying, it made me sick to my stomach for this Iranian 14 yr old teenage girl. The sentence is an absolute joke.

I’m a bereaved mother, and the thought of harming a child, my child or any child, is unfathomable.

I believe I can guess the reason this girl ran away in the first place. The father is a nasty bastard, and she knew it all too well. God rest her soul.

The whole thing is awful. A 28 yo man runs away with a 14 yo girl. Then her abusive father kills her after she is forced back.

Unutterably dreadful.

And Sharia-based Iranian law states that the legal age for marriage is 13 for girls and 15 for boys, but marriages can still be carried out at a younger age with the consent of fathers and permission from court judges.

Sickening. Poor child. This is the world the majority of women and girls have to live in — if they are allowed to. A reminder for anyone who is unconcerned about the erosion of women’s hard-won rights in countries where we have some.

Failedfeminist · 29/08/2020 15:52

Awful that poor girl

SerenityNowwwww · 29/08/2020 19:01

When I heard I thought it would be up by Armenia or Azerbaijan - which it is. They are thought of as regressive and violent (by Iranian standards).

Honour killing child murder is not such an Iranian thing (more likely to hassle/attack random women and girls in the street) but in areas like this religion is just an excuse for more ‘dark ages’ cultural behaviour. But yes, in the country dads do have aromatic control over the kids (unless you have a kick ass lawyer).

Just awful, I recently watched a film on Sky Documentaries called A Girl in the River. Its well worth a watch if you have Sky. Its about a young woman who survived an attempted honor killingat the hands of her father and uncle and her fight for justice. Scary, enraging and frustrating.

I hate that this is the world we live in and I also have the same fear about the erosion of women's rights and increasing dehumanising language towards women.

Fucking hell, that's awful.

I'm not generally a supporter of the death penalty, but I really think he's a good candidate.

Absolutely awful. Sad

Immigrantsong · 29/08/2020 20:51

This is absolutely horrendous. And proof that religions are a tool of murder and abuse at the hand of patriarchy. Make no mistake, women and girls are not free. Solidarity for all the sisters suffering.

FWRLurker · 29/08/2020 20:52

It’s quite incredible that this is an apparent stable cultural practice. It seems to go against human nature in so Many ways.

Demonstrates power of patriarchy rather well though.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll Look it up.

How bad must life have been for this teenage girl, that running off w a man twice her age seemed like a better option.

And yes, women and girls are not free. The patriarchy continues to control us and Try to put us in our place.

In the UK the typical life sentence for murder leads to 16 years served and in this case in Iran it is 9 years. I am not sure that is such a vast difference but even so there are far too many honour killings around in Iran.
