CBBC continues to push the narrative of the ‘trans child’

“Kate Harris, of the LGB Alliance, said: “It takes a fundamentally one-sided approach to a really complex issue. It’s asking children to accept that a boy who feels like a girl is in fact a girl.

“The way it’s presented is that anybody who doesn’t accept that Hannah is a girl must by their very nature be really mean, nasty and discriminatory against someone who belongs to a vulnerable minority.””

So potentially doomed to be an adult trapped in a child's aging body for life, never getting the bone-lengthening and strengthening boost of adolescence that boys and girls alike get?

Puberty blockers do what it says on the tin and cross-sex hormones taken later can feminise or masculinise physical characteristics (beards, breasts, voices etc) but I don't think they can replicate what puberty does for growth, can they?

How is this not going to be another thalidomide generation?

scotsheather · 22/08/2020 18:53

Better idea for a kids show, not about a particular person so hopefully wont be deleted again.

A boy the same age who everyone knows is a boy (including the boy himself) that looks the same as Hannah ie long hair, dresses, prefers being friends with girls and interests you expect of girls. Gets mistaken for a girl repeatedly as any pre-pubertal child in a dress and long hair would but corrects them with some witty comment. Maybe the odd bully who disapproves of 'frock boy' and eventually sees the error of their ways. Breaks other boy stereotypes like crying, class choices, any you want to address.

They'd be slated for promoting "crossdressing" to children but at least not the "wrong body" narrative or undermining single sex spaces.

Either scenario in real life would leave the male bodied child open to bullying. Thats why we aren't getting further forward.

As a previous posters says, it's possible the actor was on puberty blockers. But it is clearly evident when you watch the programme, that the actor has breast buds (it is most clearly evident when they are shown next to their completely flat chested older brother). This surely isn't possible on puberty blockers, yet they are too young for cross-sex hormones...

I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible to find a doctor to prescribe them. Helen Webberley prescribed testosterone to a 12 year old girl.

I've complained on the above link that I'm going to stop my licence fee payments.

9News Australia reported that the actor was on puberty blockers in January 2019.

FWRLurker · 24/08/2020 16:01

Is Hannah’s actor on Puberty Blockers? Or just a “social transition”?

FWRLurker · 24/08/2020 16:05

Oh just saw PP sorry

FWRLurker · 24/08/2020 16:33

Ugh that article/poor kid. Mom throws dolls out of car window “THATS NOT FOR YOU!!!”

People really think kids would not respond to this kind of treatment If they Came to know they could “be themselves” only if they claim to be Trans? Kids will respond to the reinforcement / feedback they are given. Is this not common knowledge?

Thank you for continuing to speak out Debbie.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/08/2020 19:28

Good article Debbie.

ValancyRedfern · 24/08/2020 19:44

That article. Throwing the kid's toys out of the window? What kind of parent does this?!? What I can't get over is that every single trans child story has this same element (Susie Green's husband hated Jackie's dolls, the kid in Babysitter's club was spanked, Paris Lees's dad threw out all the 'girl toys, the story in the Mermaids home page) and yet we as readers are clearly supposed read these stories and conclude these are excellent parents doing what is best for their child....

PinkBiro · 26/08/2020 10:23

Great article, @DebbieInBirmingham. Thank you.

PumbaasCucumbas · 26/08/2020 12:22

Great article Debbie.

I have had lots of conversations with my 10yo dd about this, We’ve chatted about being compassionate and inclusive, but tried to include a degree of realism/critical thinking which is missing from the programme - your article sums up the issues really well so thank you.

DebbieInBirmingham · 26/08/2020 15:45

I'm pleased that you were able to talk to your 10 yo about this @PumbaasCucumbas. What disturbs me most about the programme is the likelihood of unaccompanied children watching it and forming the conclusion that transgender is the answer to friendship issues and an escape route from unwanted sexist stereotypes.

contactusdeletus · 26/08/2020 20:10

Is it just me, or do puberty blockers seem to affect the child's face in a really odd way? I can't explain it exactly, but every trans child I've ever seen who was started on them pre-puberty seems to have the same face. Sort of a rounded jaw? Kim Petras and Jazz Jennings have the same look. You feel their faces aren't quite long enough somehow.

It seems like that lengthening of the face is a puberty-instigated thing. And the reports of Lupron damaging patients' jawbones would seem to support that. I wonder what the science is behind it all. Once you see it you really can't unsee it.

SmallPug · 26/08/2020 20:21

So heartening to read this. I felt like I was going mad seeing otherwise sensible people commending the BBC on their ‘sensitive’ handling of a trans girl’s story. I complained to the BBC but I haven’t heard anything back from them (I think they’re supposed to reply within a certain time). I really worry about how this ideology is being pushed on kids.

StandUpStraight · 26/08/2020 23:05

Great article, Debbie. Says it all.

SmallPug · 27/08/2020 19:55

I’ve just had a reply from BBC to say they haven’t responded in the normal time because they’re receiving ‘a higher than normal volume of cases’. Hmm, I wonder why that might be? 🤔

MrsKypp · 28/08/2020 01:55

I loved cars, hated dolls as a young child. My garage and petrol station play set was my favourite possession.

Lucky I was born long before the Trans Trend; I never felt I shouldn't be a girl / woman.

GaraMedouar · 28/08/2020 16:46

I’m watching this with my DD9. The reason why I’m watching it with her is so we discuss it - I don’t normally make a point of watching her programmes. I didn’t want her to watch it alone though as it is very much of the ‘be kind’ variety .

DD is certainly hearing my views. I’m all for live and let live but believe in biology and science. We’ve done the puberty remote learning lesson with school - so we’re discussing single sex toilets. My DD is definitely of the view that single sex toilets required for privacy, periods etc.
We discuss Billy , the boy who likes Hannah and that he doesn’t know so is that right or wrong (only seen 2 episodes so far). We discuss the danger of puberty blockers , the actor is so small , I assume they are on puberty blockers - and long term effect. We discuss XX and XY chromosomes and if a male has an operation to remove his penis then he will still be XY with no penis.
I have said ‘Batman is not a bat, he’s a man dressed as a bat’ - I liked that video if anyone saw it.
Talk about males in sport etc , would it be fair for Usain Bolt to become Ursula and thrash all the women’s 100m records.

Gncq · 28/08/2020 21:45

I agree.

I have also noticed for a long time that MTF faces after facial feminisation surgery all look the same too. I struggle to tell Contrapoints apart from Riley J D.

There's definitely a replicated, standardized look under face feminization surgery.

It wouldn't surprise me if "trans kids" are ushered into facial surgery too seeing as they're already on that cosmetic medical route.
