10yo girl in Brazil, pregnant, mob attempted to stop her from accessing abortion

I am absolutely horrified by this story, happening over the past few days.

This child has been abused and let down by everyone around her. How does it come to this? She is the baby who needed protection. Her.

I was just reading this - it is absolutely appalling. What of the man who abused her (and it was abuse)? No policing of him going on.

That poor child, I’m glad she was able to access an abortion in the end and hope she recovers well. I wonder what support she will have for the trauma of it all? I do hope she has people to look after her.

Horrific. According to the WHO, "complications during pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death for 15–19-year-old girls globally."

Outcomes for adolescent girls younger than 15 are even worse with higher risks for all pregnancy complications. Outcomes for the fetus are also much worse, with high risks of stillbirth and congenital defects.

I don't understand anti-abortion activists who are willing for a child to die so that she can carry a child to term who is also likely to die. Where is the love for children in that?

Horrific, I hope she is somewhere safe where the mob can't get hold of her and nowhere near the man who impregnated her.

My heart goes out to this little girl. The bastard was raping her from the age of 6 and now she has to contend with a baying mob who value the life of a fetus more than the life of a ten year old girl

Reading about this poor 10 yr old girl & her treatment has made me feel bloody furious.

This Giromini/Winter woman should be thoroughly ashamed of herself.

What a horrific situation for a girl to be in - raped for years, then impregnated by her rapist, and to add insult to injury, being hounded by mobs for trying to access an abortion. Just awful.

It's almost beyond comprehension. They flew her to another city in the end and the local feminists mobilised and came out in support. She was also supported by a feminist who accompanied her.

We are 1 Act of Parliament from this sort of situation so it's always worth reminding ourselves on the centrality of reproductive rights in feminism and what spins out from that reproductive capacity.

I hope this young girl can come through this.

If they cared about life it wouldn't be that poor little girl they mobbed, it would be the rapist filth who did that to her. They'd also help her access a life-saving medical procedure. It's not about life, it's about hatred and contempt for women.

No thought for the child in that terrible situation, only worried about the group of cells inside her. People disgust me sometimes.
