Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I took a leap

I jumped this week and posted the Guardian article by Suzanne Moore to my FB feed

This one for reference https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/aug/03/define-what-a-woman-is-organise-politically-suzanne-moore?twitterr_impression=true

I hated my breath and girded my loins only to be met with either agreement at my horror of what is happening to women and in the name of trans people, or surprise and thanks for informing people.

I'm really proud of my friends this week. There were some notable silences but no pile on. I think that's a win.

As a result of posting I have been approached by a local feminist group and made some really interesting connections I can't wait to take further.

That's wonderful.

Skyliner001 · 11/08/2020 08:41

I'm not GC and I don't think there is anything controversial in this article so bit surprised no one piled on.

Skyliner001 · 11/08/2020 08:41

*not surprised

MsMarvellous · 11/08/2020 09:40

Fair enough @Skyliner001, but given without half my responses were that women I know are scared to just say that they are a woman for fear of reprisal at work/socially, I respectfully disagree.

Suzanne Moore is brilliant. Well done Marvellous. I'm staying low on my fb, can't deal with it after being on Twitter for a few months. I don't think a lot of my hard left friends would get it tbh. The more women realise what's happening the better.

Skyliner001 · 11/08/2020 10:14

That's okay, I get that you're lived experience is different to mine. :-)

Skyliner001 · 11/08/2020 10:14

Your! Blooming phone

GoldenBlue · 11/08/2020 10:46

Well done, FB is a bold statement, I've not quite braved that yet

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 11/08/2020 12:02

Well done. I've shared gc stuff on fb before and had very little response, and no negativity other than losing my most extreme woke 'friends ', the type you don't really want to be friends with anyway.

I have noticed woke friends posting TRA type of stuff get very, very little traction lately. And when a couple posted after JKR to try the TWAW mantra, there were always several measured but determined voices disagreeing. We're not at the end of the rainbow quite yet, but the mood has certainly shifted. The debate is starting to be had. And we know what happens when there is free debate.

It doesn't take much sunlight. Pull!

@Skyliner001 on the Internet we just had a respectful disagreement. This is why I always come back to Mumsnet Grin For the most part we can be grown ups about this stuff!

@GoldenBlue @ScrimpshawTheSecond it certainly feels like a change in mood but still a big step to "come out" on there.

Well done, MsMarvellous. You took a risk, and I'm delighted that you had a sensible response. Sounds like a good crowd of friends.

Delphinium20 · 14/08/2020 17:49
