The above link should download a copy of the Lanarkshire policy on treatment of Transgender staff. No consideration of the needs of female staff or patients is mentioned. Totally ignores single sex exemptions.

@Pacif1cDogwood

As a HCP working in Lanarkshire I would love to know who to address a robust comment to? I have no desire to comment on the DailyFail, much as that article is not terrible. Other than not really getting the whole issue.
Two options - email [email protected], who have already been contacted by a number of your colleagues or you could write to any or all of your MSPs and ask them to ask a question in parliament on your behalf on this issue (in both cases your name will be withheld if you ask for anonymity).

@Butchyrestingface

I notice 'trans' was capitalised throughout the document.

Anyway, no doubt the HR department is currently groaning under the heft of having to deal with all those trans employees jumping around deepest, darkest Lanarkshire. What a great use of resource.

It was almost entirely copied and pasted from similar policies adopted in other Scottish NHS boards. Not much effort involved.

Good article on this in the Scotsman.

I still can't believe that government organisations are putting in place illegal policies and no one in charge has the backbone to set them straight.

SerenityNowwwww · 16/08/2020 11:13

Well the police aren’t exactly going to do that are they? They are very well ‘educated’. Who is approving all this?

highame · 16/08/2020 11:15

Kay Sandilands, director of human resources, said: “NHS Lanarkshire recognises that trans people are entitled to fair and equal access to all NHS services, including as an employer.

If you read her response it basically says 'we're not changing anything'. Perhaps her view will change if suddenly there is a legal challenge, after all, we tax payers will not want to fund their legal costs and I for one would be asking these people who have overstepped the mark to pay their own bloody costs

SocialMedea · 16/08/2020 11:21

Interesting. Lanarkshire NHS document says they assign a sex at birth

I wonder what the scans are like. A bit weird I imagine.

SerenityNowwwww · 16/08/2020 11:25

Can they explain exactly how they assign sex at birth birth?

Does it ever not match the babies biology or does the midwife ever - In seriousness or just for a laugh - say ‘oh the baby’s here - ten fingers, ten toes, penis... ITS A GIRL!!!’.

ThousandsAreSailing · 16/08/2020 11:32

Great for parents who want a particular sex.
Have 5 boys already? No problem just ask them to assign girl to the next one

Cailleach1 · 16/08/2020 13:35

Maybe those few with entailed estates etc can have their child(ten) in Lanarkshire NHS area. Then they can let their biological girl (is there any other kind?) identify her way out of the piece of direct discrimination against females in the 'Equality' Act which bars her from inheritance on an equal footing to males.

Don't be silly! It is not about chromosomes or sex characteristics. If you can say male characteristics = woman, then of course female characteristics = boy. If it cannot be defined biologically, then a certain look, whinge, fist pump or demeanour can be interpreted. NHS Lanarkshire would be bigots to argue against a parental deciphering of their child's gender identity. Which is now a synonym for what ever sex you're having yourself.

I think we need to write to elected members and maybe ask them to ask Cab Sec for Health what the diagnostic tests are for gender in a new born. I assume from NHS Lanarkshire et al that NHS thinks gender is innate, so what’s the test? What is the test for femininity/masculinity in newborn? (Or is NHS using gender as shorthand for gender identity in which case there are hundreds of them in which case, well, wow. Take some time to figure out your aromantic from your polygender baby). Can NHS be sued if they incorrectly assign gender? If baby is assigned feminine then turns out they self id as masculine when they’re 13?
This is how it works isn’t it? Wink

Your post displays a serious lack of knowledge and understanding of Scots property and inheritance law.

What a fabulous FOI request. I can't wait to see the full reply.

PaternosterLoft · 30/08/2020 14:07

T Pipet, I salute you Grin

MichelleofzeResistance · 30/08/2020 14:09

Where's the policy on assigning? Is there a hat? A dart board? A dice? Who gets to assign? What is their training?

Why are we pretending that anything happens other than biological sex being recorded?

Rather like the whole 'it's discrimination not to think of someone in their chosen gender'. Thought crime. Right there. It seriously is becoming compulsory to pretend to a belief you do not hold.

MichelleofzeResistance · 30/08/2020 14:12

LOL

Cross post, T Pipet is way ahead of me Grin

Seriously, does no organisation have a manager that does the Daily Mail test any more? As in 'how will this look to the average person in the street when it's headlines?'

boatyardblues · 30/08/2020 14:16

Perhaps they use the same system as for randomised controlled trials so the midwives’ bias doesn’t screw up the population-level M:F split. 🤷‍♂️

BlackForestCake · 30/08/2020 17:38

Other questions:

Are there targets for the distribution of gender? If the statistics showed an imbalance in the population, could we assign a few more in one direction or the other for a few years to balance things out?

It certainly makes civil planning a lot easier. Why don't we just publish the gender split for the next ten years of births in advance?

PaternosterLoft · 30/08/2020 18:34

Or link the sex and gender to the NHS number - evens are female, odds are boys. That was it's both a 50/50 split and as random as any other method.
