Wearing a bra

Since having the implant put in my boobs have hurt like CRAZY!!! I'm waiting to hear back from the doctors as all contraceptives do this to me. But wearing a bra hurts so much and is really uncomfortable.

Not wearing a bra is so much more comfortable for me at the minute but I'm worried to leave the house without one on. If I saw another person not wearing a bra it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.. but I know other people aren't so accepting and are judgmental on the topic.

What are people's experiences leaving the house without a bra? Have you been judged and what do you all think?? Sorry if this seems like a ridiculous question, I just need some girly advice lol. Please no hate!!Smile

There is definitely a feminist issue in why society has an expectation that women wear bras.

I know someone will say there isn’t, but the issues that go along with going braless (visible nipples, bounce) seem to me to be worthy of some thought.

At work we had a guy who wore thin shirts and had visible nipples. No one commented on this. Would that be the case if a woman wore clothing with nipples showing? I get the feeling it would not.

The OP may not have posted this as a feminist issue but given how many women say bras are uncomfortable, expensive, and for many women unnecessary it’s worth a thought.

You do you....I would love not to wear one but I'm a HH cup and I'd knock someone out if I didn't haha

The wear one. Ha. Ha. It works for you. No one is stopping you.

Agree anothersparticus.

If we're not careful, we become like TRA's

@DialSquare mine too😂

DialSquare · 11/08/2020 11:12

It's a sad cross to bear highame! But quite handy throwing them over my shoulder to wash underneath!

Talking of bras. This made me chuckle earlier!

Oh dear, Emma just does not get it does she? :(

OP get yourself a Triumph Doreen Bra. No wire to make you sore but still supportive for comfort and with decent shape under clothing if that bothers you. A friend of mine tried one in desperation due to breast pain during menopause and vowed never to go back as it was such a revelation.

I often wear a sports bra, crop top or bralette as a more comfortable option but they don't look good under fitted clothes.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 11/08/2020 11:22

I went out last night with a supportive strapless bra under my dress. Before I even got to the restaurant I’d whipped it off in the car as it was so restrictive and uncomfortable!

Lockdown has been so nice, with no need for a bra and comfy elasticated lounging trousers all day. Having to wear real clothes is a right PITA.

If you don’t want to wear one, then don’t. Some people (men) may notice, most probably won’t. Some may comment, so if you’re strong enough to ignore and not feel anxious if someone happens to comment or stare, go for it. It’s absolutely your right to go about your business without having to truss up your boobs to stop people seeing that you have them.

Otherwise as others have suggested, there are more comfy varieties than a standard underwired one.

But the underlying issue is the effect hormonal contraception has on you. If the implant is causing you problems, make sure your GP takes that seriously. Yes we’re all very lucky that we can be in control of our own fertility these days bla bla bla but can’t you imagine men putting up with the myriad of side effects caused by the pill/implants etc?

Anyway, welcome to Mumsnet, it can be a place of great support, but it has also been infiltrated by trolls and people are rightly wary of giving away personal information to perverts and trouble makers, which can be used against us with screenshots and malicious reports etc, which is why your initial post was greeted with such suspicion.

As a handy pointer, on MN most posters don’t use their real name, we don’t use emojis (except the official pixelated MN emojis) , LoLs or kisses. We are generally straight talking, direct (bordering on rude!) and sweary - which is part of what makes the site unique. It also takes a bit of getting used to if you’re generally of a sunny disposition and like to end your messages with smiley faces and kisses Grin

You need a thick skin and a sense of humour to feel at home here, but if you read more than you post, you’ll get a good idea of the general tone of the place and hopefully find some support for parenting issues as well as style and beauty ones.

^ That's good advice.

She really doesn't. I would feel sorry for her but unfortunately many young girls listen to the bollocks she spouts. Waiting for the day her support of Mermaids comes back to bite her in the arse.
hellotoday27 · 11/08/2020 11:33

Don't put up with sore breasts from your contraception. Get yourself back to the GP and look for other options. It's a bit of trial and error to find what suits you in terms of hormone contraceptions.

I never go out without a bra (far too big) but have invested in some rather good soft bras recommended on the style and Beauty page that have been a god send you n this hot weather. I'm don't follow fashion at all so I've found the ladies of style and beauty to be an excellent source of info when I've needed help.

ooooohhh Emma, that's a bit edgy flats or heels!

Not wishing to derail this thread but there's some great responses. It's been mentioned in AIBU but I might start a new thread here for anyone interested.
Testarossa44 · 11/08/2020 12:59

I'd love to go braless, but being a DD, makes it uncomfortable not to have them supported.

NiceGerbil · 11/08/2020 13:32

YY agree with go back to gp.

Isn't it bad that that's not the first thing to spring to mind for so many women (including me) when a woman has side effects like this.

Nomnomarrgh · 11/08/2020 18:12

And now its impossible to try on a range of bras to see what works without buying then first. Not helpful.
