Why your mum has a problem with gender

I have written a script for a little film I am making for my 8 year old. It looks like a poem, so I thought I'd share it here for you if you'd like it.

Why your mum might have a problem with gender

I’ve never met her, obvs,
but here’s why your mum might find
gender identity hard.
It may be that she believes
that when you are born
you start living in the body you will have
for the whole of the time you are on earth.

It may be that you are a girl
or a boy.
Either way,
she loves and adores you.
and carries on loving and adoring you
as you grow into a woman
or a man.

It could be that she thinks
of
gender identity
and
stereotypes
as labels.

These labels can be
helpful, unhelpful
instructive, offensive
funny
sad
beautiful
inaccurate, roughly right
and lots of other things

Either way,
they are still lables.
And she may not like them because they get in the way
of seeing the
unique and outstanding
beauty
of
you.
As you are.
Right.
Now.

Really lovely. Let's get that into schools instead of the current rubbish.
