No death threats as he's a man but fuck knows why "individuals with a cervix" is better than "women and transmen"

Nobody ever points out that not everyone knows if they have a cervix

@twoHopes

Haha this is a great point. A) some people have no idea what a cervix is and B) how the fuck do you know if you've got a cervix if you haven't had a smear test or had kids? Surely you can only assume you have one because... you're female?!

This is, indeed, an excellent point.

How would one actually know if one was included in the group of humans who have a cervix?

What is the actual criteria? If it's got nothing to do with whether you are male or female, how can you tell? How does a single human being decide, judge, or conclude that they have a cervix?

What are they going on?

What is the list of conditions? And how do you know if you meet them?

NiceGerbil · 01/08/2020 13:47

A teacher on one of those threads has said he would not tell his class that human females menstruate as

It's not what he believes

And

It goes against equalities legislation

Wtf

This is going to be a disaster for sex ed etc if teachers are saying that boys and girls can get pregnant etc

Siablue · 01/08/2020 14:40

Poor Rosie Duffield. I wondered what she thought of all this after her brilliant DV speech. At least there is someone in the Labour Party who knows what a woman is.

On the other hand, If Piers Morgan thinks you are a misogynist then there is no hope for you.

NearlyGranny · 01/08/2020 15:32

Nice gerbil, I had always assumed biology teachers were meant to teach facts, not personal beliefs! I doubt he'll last long in post. Much better to stick to the curriculum which is what he's being paid for.

No doubt the parents will cotton on when the students start talking about the diagrams of unicorns and mermaids they're doing. 😆

NearlyGranny · 01/08/2020 16:07

How interesting that the bile and savagery bypasses the Twitter user who originated the post (male) and pikes in on someone who just liked it (female). I think that tells us everything we need to know. TRAs appear to be rampant misogynists. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Probably not a biology teacher, but somebody teaching PTSCE (or what ever it's called now - much like LGBTQI++ it seems to add another letter each year).
PTSCE is often taught by form tutors, not specialists, so this could be a teacher of any subject.

Yes. And they they know the difference between man and woman when choosing who to hate on.

Here we have an example of english language privilege IMO. An entire thread composed of people fluent in english and willing/able to impose the substitution of plain english (woman) with any more complicated variants in order to accommodate a minority.
Completely ignoring the huge numbers of women who don't have english language competence at the level required.
Imagine being so closeted that you never encounter another woman who struggles with reading or speaking english in the UK. Imagine assuming absolutely everyone knows where and what a cervix is. It's so insanely myopic.

Here's a whole paper on the benefits of plain english in medicine. Key words: health literacy

Anyway they're running a survey on it here

www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WQCSRZM

Kit19 · 02/08/2020 19:40

Filled in the survey praising everything where the word woman is used

The use gender instead of sex but there is a box for “prefer to self describe” where I wrote I don’t have a gender, I have a sex - adult human female

Cuntysnark · 02/08/2020 20:19

Did the same Kit.

MondayYogurt · 02/08/2020 21:37

Rather strange that all the cervical cancer charities have women's names...

Almost as if there's some connection there.

I like the Scottish poster on the survey - good choice of colours.

PopperUppleton · 02/08/2020 23:47

And not only but also, not everybody knows that 'cervix' and 'cervical' relate to the same thing. Different words, different spelling. Not necessarily clear
