I’ve sent her a gushing email. Possibly a bit over the top, but she has been my hero for a long time.

So pleased to see lots of you donating to Lumos, what a lovely way to show our support in practical terms and do some good at the same time. I will slip some pennies across too.

She's been an utter star the last few months. The interaction with fans in lockdown, then the Ickabog story which lighted up some very drab days for my kids,

Then her stalwart calm voice for women's rights. And trans rights too if people would only listen to what she actually says.

And I'm getting into her Cormoran Strike series and really enjoying the plotting and character setup. I always enjoyed the mystery aspect of HP books, the genre suits her perfectly.

Altogether woman of the year!

I called her Joanne. Got an email back from her team thanking me and that they would pass on the birthday wishes and advise her of the Lumos donation. They always write back whenever I've emailed. They said she wouldn't be able to reply personally but I've never expected that anyway.

I believe it's the Ickabog - her new book that she released for free a chapter at a time online during lockdown.

ah of course, I haven't looked into that one yet!
