Saw this on Facebook and wanted to share, I hope it is readble.

EN is doing a great job - but if she is going to contact every organisation that misrepresents the law, she's going to be exhausted!

In case not, for those who can access twitter:

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/07/2020 16:58

Have you been hacked ?
Fucking genius 🍷

Collidascope · 28/07/2020 16:59

I'm guessing they've been stonewalled rather than hacked. What a fucking joke.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 28/07/2020 17:02

Horrendous - giving information to girls that adult males can be intimately search them.

Fuck you Liberty. How dare you.

Thank God for the Baroness

OldCrone · 28/07/2020 17:08

Definitely stonewalled. I cancelled my membership a couple of years ago when they were supporting the change in the GRA to self-ID, explaining what the problems were. They included this in their reply:

There are many reasons to support the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act, articulated clearly by Stonewall and by Gendered Intelligence.

TheShoesa · 28/07/2020 17:14

Seeing just how many organisations have adopted Stonewall law makes me want to weep.

I know we need to get it corrected every single time we see it, but it is so fucking tiresome because it is EVRYWHERE.

I'm still waiting on a response from my council regarding some of their literature quoting Gender but not Sex as a protected characteristic. The weird thing is, they have an Equality Act page which quotes Sex correctly so not sure why they haven't in their literature. I'll keep chasing until I get a response.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/07/2020 17:38

I don't know why anyone is surprised. They openly supported PIE in the 70's and 80's

highame · 28/07/2020 18:30

That, I think, is the intention. The Baroness is very keen that the law is used correctly & she has staff😁

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 28/07/2020 18:35

Oh that Liberty - phew! For moment I thought I was going to have to boycott posh scarves.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 28/07/2020 18:37

But yes, an organisation that is about fairness under the law should know what the law is and not misrepresent it.

Freespeecher · 28/07/2020 18:55

Is Shami Chakrabarti still in charge there? Or did she move on when she became a Baroness?

TheShoesa · 28/07/2020 19:21

*EVERYWHERE

How embarrassing, I've just noticed my typo - and in capitals, too Blush

Same here, OldCrone. I wonder how many members they lost over that?
TheYellowOfTheEgg · 28/07/2020 20:30

I stopped my Liberty membership over the GRA too. It was when they said "the GRA won't affect you unless you are trans". I complained and got the kind of response you'd expect so I stopped my membership.

TheYellowOfTheEgg · 28/07/2020 20:31

Shami Chakrabati is not at Liberty anymore.

nauticant · 28/07/2020 20:32

I'm amused at the way that suggests she's been locked up.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/07/2020 20:34

That's three members they lost, then, just off this board. Does nobody ever get a lot of letters/complaints about this kind of thing and think, oh, you know, maybe our supporters who care enough to join are not all raging bigots but might have a point?

I just had a wee look back at the emails then. I'd asked how they'd arrived at their batshit stance.

'As with all our policy positions, our position on the Gender Recognition Act took into account domestic and international human rights standards, and involved conversations with other human rights groups – including, but not exclusively, Stonewall.'

That was 2018.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/07/2020 20:35

TBH, we need a new civil liberties/ human rights pressure group. It was only after the GRA fiasco that I found out about Liberty and PIE. That's twice they've managed to support fucking appalling stances. Two times too many, in my view.

PamDenick · 28/07/2020 20:38

Baroness Nicholson is going sterling work for women and girls. Thank you Mumsnetters or alerting me to this issue and then thank you to JKR and Baroness Nicholson for clarifying the argument.

^^ This.

It's so disappointing to see organisations that really and truly should have changed (in this case, into one that understands the law when that's their core job), having not done so.

tadjennyp · 28/07/2020 20:48

Have tried googling but could someone please explain what PIE stands for? Tia.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/07/2020 21:02

P*edophile Information Exchange. A group set up to lobby for the rights of said Ps, in the 70s. Got horrifyingly close to having the whole thing accepted by various people/bodies - some of whom are still campaigning.

tadjennyp · 28/07/2020 21:07

Thank you (I think!) Scrimpshaw . Shock

beargrass · 28/07/2020 21:13

I thought this was an interesting thread on PIE: https://mobile.twitter.com/PankhurstEM/status/1283703787992109056

For me, it's the uncritical acceptance of something coming from adults when it is obviously something that harms children, which is the Shock moment.

It was a campaign for "paedophilia" and now it's the idea we're meant to just accept giving kids unlicensed drugs, or (back to the OP) ignore a part of the law that protects us from discrimination on the basis of sex.

It gets me that we are just meant to accept these creeping, undemocratic changes. I don't accept them(!).
