Wow. I knew things were bad but that has really shocked me.

I believe that most religions were designed to corral and control women.

If a regime applied that control over an ethnic or religious minority (not that women are a minority, of course, which makes it worse) there would be calls for sanctions etc .

I started a thread on this piece this morning but I think the title of this one is spot on.

Look, this is an awful thing, but I don't really think yu could conclude fro it that no one has ever been treated this badly on the basis of race or religion. I can think of a number of comparably bad things. Gassed to death, considered untouchable, fed to lions, just as possibilities.

I would certainly say misogyny is the oldest prejudice.

The most widespread too, given that women are half the human population.

This is also why it's the most invisible. Because men have been oppressing women for so long and so widely it is simply normality. Hence conveniently (for men anyway) invisible and unnoticed.

Btw I read that Guy Gibson’s dog has had the name on his gravestone erased because of modern discomfort with that word. Poor old dog, would have been better as Fido I guess.

Misogyny tends to be seen as more natural, still, and is often viewed as an issue that cultures must sort out for themselves, while outsiders can be very critical of a culture which oppresses racial, ethnic, sexual and religious minorities.

I don't think comparing types of oppression is terribly informative, ultimately, because all cultures can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Women are killed precisely for being women all the time, where as any and all other groups this would be considered a hate crime it’s not for women. So yep op your title is spot on.
