What is the point in this question in my daughter’s 42 month questionnaire? Is it completely innocent and to do with language development? Or are they trying to identify gender dysphoria in 3 year olds?

Standard question, it’s about level of understanding and nothing more.

Twizbe · 24/07/2020 18:07

Do they have a 3 year check?

PotteringAlong · 24/07/2020 18:08

It’s language development and is a standard question that’s been used for years.

Jeeeez · 24/07/2020 18:09

I think it's the former, as it's a question every child should be able to answer; having heard what sex they are 100s of times by that age

Whew. I think I am just on high alert with everything that’s been happening lately. If she’d said she was a boy I’d have probably lied about her answer anyway. She’s 4 1/2 already and they’ve only just sent us this questionnaire. I’m pretty sure she she was 3 she spent full weeks convinced she was a cat so 🤷🏽‍♀️

I see it as quite the opposite. They wouldn't say 'does your child answer correctly?' if there was any ambiguity.

Good point! I’ve just been quite down about the state of everything lately, particularly since I’m in Scotland, and then this came through the door today and it just seemed like one “gender” question too many.

On the plus side I seem to have raised her alright so far. I asked her some of the questions, including the one above, over dinner and she said “I’m a girl because I have a Vulva. And my brother has a penis so he’s a boy.”

“I’m a girl because I have a Vulva. And my brother has a penis so he’s a boy.”

Well done - too many girls and women think the vulva is the vagina and then we get obfuscations of fact in women’s healthcare literature.
