Anyone on ‘Radio 4 - It’s not just for the middle-aged’ ?

Following the announcement that Jenni Murray is to leave Woman’s Hour, someone (with a female name) has suggested that a trans woman could replace Jenni. Some robust discussion followed! A man has already stepped in to call a GC woman ‘transphobic’ and ‘poison’.

Just had a look, only one slur starting with T and lots of women saying a trans woman wouldn't be the right presenter for Woman's hour as they haven't 'grown up' as a woman.

One dared to say a trans woman was a man (only quoting MN).

I admit I didn't get as far as the comment about poison but I can't say I'm surprised.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the next presenter was say Munroe Bergdorf or Paris Lees. The BBC is putting 12m into diversity programming after all.

Disappointing but not surprising that the person suggesting a TW presenter appears to be a woman.

After an edition where someone from the Only Way is Essex said that we should be spending 45 mins a day putting on our make up and the presenter didn't challenge that - Women's Hour should be floated into the North Sea and sunk with all who present her...

Is this real?

What happened to all the work feminism did in the past to allow men and women to dress as they please, to use makeup or not and so on? When did we travel back to the 1950s values, except now those have the option of picking which rigid gender cage you prefer or pretending that you can be nonbinary while all others are stereotypically binary.

HopeClearwater, I know many feminists. The majority of them wish to (and I quote here) "center trans women in feminism."

A lemmings phenomenon.

"center trans women in feminism."

I find the use of such mantras quite interesting as it shows who hasn't thought about this issues properly.

I also couldn't keep a straight face if someone said this to me.

"You must prioritise males in your women's rights movement!" - Yeah, alright then pal!

Babdoc · 24/07/2020 08:07

So women can’t even have one hour to ourselves, out of the entire week’s programming? How did we get to this?

highame · 24/07/2020 08:14

I assume it's unlikely. Women will do what they always do, they will just walk.

Will there be any jobs for women, biological women?

The transgender suggestion was one person with a feminine name. No-one else seems to think it's a good idea.

I find the idea of needing a "young" presenter a bit bizarre, you need quite some experienced to lead a major daily programme, it's not a role for anyone particularly junior.

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/07/2020 08:20

I hope they do drink the Kool Aid and put someone ‘diverse’ in the role. They’ll soon see how popular that approach is with the majority of people once they see the listening figures.

Abhannmor · 24/07/2020 11:19

Traditional media is in enough trouble without alienating millions of ppl surely? Suzanne Moore would be my choice but it's not going to happen.

fatblackcatspaw · 24/07/2020 12:09

Nepeta sadly yes. I was in such a snit I havne't listened to this since it was a few years ago - though I caught an episode this week when so tired I could not switch the dial.

Wherearemyminions · 24/07/2020 16:09

I'm in that group and have frequently wondered who else I would find from here:) Whenever certain topics come up, there's a hard core of men and handmaideny types but there's always the voices of reason too which always makes me feel a bit better!

HopeClearwater · 24/07/2020 16:19

@nepeta that’s so depressing
