And money is going elsewhere. Funny that.

Going to be hard to process though, without mentioning the F part of FGM. Clearly nobody really gives a damn about these girls.

Didn’t the guardian try to change the F to something else?

Layla Moran, the Liberal Democrat leadership contender who uncovered the figures, called it a betrayal of “brave campaigners” who had made the UK a world leader in efforts to stop FGM.

Ms Moran called for lost funding to be restored, saying: “The Conservative government has overseen a staggering fall in funding to tackle this issue at home.

“Unfortunately, FGM hasn’t gone away and it mustn’t be ignored again. At a time when they should be preparing for adult life, no girl or young woman should suffer FGM.”

Layla Moran now appears to know what a girl is. I'm surprised at this. I thought she'd just suggest that they say they have a 'manly soul', and they'd no longer be at risk.

What are the police doing that so many girls are mutilated, and we know about it, but no-one is being arrested? Who is doing this, and why haven't they been found and locked up?

If this were someone going around chopping off big toes there'd be more action, it's unbelievable.

And I understand that there needs to be cultural work with the families, education in the communities, that locking up a girl's parents may not be in the child's best interests necessarily - but whoever is doing the cutting - they need to be found and prosecuted.

I can't believe we imported this mediaeval horror in the first place. No I'm not racist, I'm just not a cultural relativist. This is where turning a blind eye based on nothing but a community's skin colour gets you. It's a fucking shocker in the UK in the 21st century but it didn't have to be this way if people just had more backbone about this misogynistic shit.

Yes, I’m surprised at that too.

This is horrific. And that quote implies the girls being subjected to FGM are of an age to be ‘preparing for adulthood’ when actually we know this abuse is often being done to girls in infancy, partly to avoid detection.

This is absolutely horrific statistic, why is this not a national media headline?
It’s a national disgrace. These are small girls and young women in Britain, now, girls in our schools, having this done to them.

You know what is really upsetting, this is the time of year when schools break up. A common time to do this to school age girls. It just doesn’t bear thinking about.

Poor girls, and the women they become. 💔 I've been reading @HiboWardere on Twitter, and she's so strong and articulate, but she shouldn't have to be. I wish every woman had First World Problems instead of FGM and infanticide and so on. It's really heartbreaking.
