Rugby reject koolaid, listen to science
McDuffy · 20/07/2020 12:46

Excellent news. Is it just the Guardian that has the story? Can't see it in the Times at quick glance.

HPFA · 20/07/2020 12:59

@thehumanformerlyknownasfemale @DianasLasso @Winesalot @Collidascope

It just seemed strange to me that someone like Josh is whining about how this will give people an excuse to hate transwomen while he's effectively arguing that the safety of women should count for nothing against the "feelings" of transwomen.

I'm sure out in the world many transwomen don't feel like this (really hope not anyway) but they sure as hell aren't being well served by the people claiming to speak for them.

RoyalCorgi · 20/07/2020 13:10

While I appreciate the effort that the rugby authorities have put into being guided by the science, it's also exasperating. We have long had rules that keep women's rugby and men's rugby separate. That's all we need. The rule is: don't let men play on a women's rugby team. It's not difficult, is it?

RoyalCorgi · 20/07/2020 13:10

Is it just the Guardian that has the story?

It's marked "Exclusive", so I would guess, yes.

Mytholmroyd · 20/07/2020 13:17

This is good news and as Nic has said they expected rugby to be the crunch sport because it is a collision sport not just a contact sport.

I believe there was early opposition from the referees working in female rugby because they are legally responsible for health and safety on the field and quite rightly they did not want to referee games with a male playing.

Well done to Emma Hilton for all her work on this - a brilliant advocate and scientist!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 20/07/2020 13:37

I'd be braced for howls from the TRA public...

I actually don't give a fuck about the TRA public. They can take their bloody fight elsewhere and stop shitting from a great height on people who were assigned female at birth. Sorry: WOMEN.

CaveMum · 20/07/2020 13:46

I’d like to see the TRAs try to spin this to the general public.

TRAS: Science says TW have no advantage! Wah!
Public: Oh, can you show us?
TRAs: Science is transphobic!

Winesalot · 20/07/2020 13:57

Agreed HPFA. It does seem though that there are many activists who are echoing his approach. They all are focused on feelz rather than scientific evidence from numerous independent sources (and some of the research was premised on women's safety rather than specifically about risk of transwomen in contact sport so no 'agenda' bias there).

gardenbird48 · 20/07/2020 14:01

you would imagine that a TW playing women's rugby and accidentally killing an opponent during a match would give people slightly more of a reason to 'hate' them than if they faced up to reality and conceded that their male body and puberty gives them an unfair advantage and campaigned for an alternative solution that works for everyone.
Bring back 'sporting competition'!

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 20/07/2020 14:08

Science is a terf now, apparently, that bigoted bitch 🤦‍♀️ And the Guardian are "at it again with the transphobia".

The same Guardian that's losing a load of readers because of their blatant bias towards the trans community, whilst disregarding the safety and rights of women.

Goes to show how fickle the activists are (the most vocal, vicious ones anyway). All is well and good when you're dancing to their tune. Make a wrong move (or what they perceive to be a wrong move) and you're done for. Madness.

highame · 20/07/2020 14:14

Is this a clever game by the Guardian? what if, because they're losing readership, they're trying to get the wokies well and truly hooked and develop an online Alt Lib anti women twitter-sphere that brings in bags of advertising

I know that sounds daft but it's just as daft to have your loyal women readers(but I bet it's not just women) leaving in droves and apparently not care

peadarm · 20/07/2020 14:21

@scotsheather

Its a start. Probably the most obvious sport for safety of male and female playing together.

Hope it trickles down.

The world's first transgender MMA fighter might disagree on the most obvious sport.

Fallon Fox enjoys fracturing women's skulls and loves "smacking up TERFs in the cage…it's bliss!”

The woman whose skull 'she' fractured needed seven staples in her skull, and subsequently retired: gript.ie/fallon-fox-skull-bliss/

This article has an image which shows the stark difference between male bodied and female bodied basketball players.

That University lecturer who thinks it's out-and out transphobia to protect sportswomen from the male-bodied, trains teachers.

(Doesn't know how to use an apostrophe either)

This is their time to chime in with all the scientific data they insist exists isnt it? I mean its not all being kind is it?

I mean they have something don't they?

Did the person in that tweet even read the article? It's not based on ''concerns'', it's based on scientific facts. That TW are stronger than females. Hurt feelings and their preferred identity don't have a place in this argument. They're irrelevant when women are being put in serious danger.

It's like talking to a brick wall-how do these people function in real life whilst seriously lacking basic comprehension skills?

andyoldlabour · 20/07/2020 15:01

Something like the Joanna Harper study which convinced the IOC to change the rules on intersex and transgender athletes, where she took half a dozen non elite athletes and took performance comparisons before and after they transitioned. The only problem was, the after results were between ten and fifteen years after the beforesConfused
Nobody in their right mind can think allowing male bodied people to compete against women is a good idea.

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 20/07/2020 15:04

Should have know too that this would all be the fault of us nasty 'women's groups'.

We've been so sneaky, giving those trans women the bodies and strength of males to deny them their human right of playing women's rugby 🙄 How manipulative of us.

This is the person which people on twitter (ones who hate MN anyway) believe has more experience and knowledge than Dr Emma Hilton. Forget the fact that they are experts in totally separate fields...

You'd have to completely lack critical thought if you believed that someone 'finishing their Phd' in Sociology would have more expertise in research into developmental biology. Unless I missed a previous doctorate in human biology in the bio....

The tribalism on Twitter is unhinged. It's embarrassing to see so many people disengage brain and critical thinking capacity in order to get the warm, cosy feeling of belonging to a 'good' movement that righteously shits on 51% of the population. I know that humans have a long history of doing this though so it shouldn't be surprising.
truthisarevolutionaryact · 20/07/2020 15:57

Good news. The analysis that went into this decision was impressive - I recall reading the accounts of the conference and some of the papers that were presented.
But yet again, women are expected to ignore, safety, rights and science all in favour of the demands of this movement that never bloody stops demanding from others, especially women.

Kit19 · 20/07/2020 16:17

i have sent the story to DH who is dealing with this in another sport where a womens team want to play a TW and the umpires are not at all happy that its safe
