So had to fill in some forms for a covid anti body test at work.

The form asks

Name
Gender (Male/Female/Other)
Ethnicity

Etc, etc

I want to highlight that it should be asking sex not gender, what's the best way to do this?

I'd enter the word 'fluid' and wait for them to get back to you. Then you can explain that your sex is m or f (whichever applies) but as for gender, you:be been thinking and you're not really sure. See, if you like the colour pink but enjoy changing the oil in your car, love baking but love DIY just as much, how are you meant to decide? Tell them you're keeping it open!

Partner has the same form and now he is all worried that I have written "This should be sex not gender" on mine

If you're challenged I would point out that current data shows men in the UK are twice as likely to die from Covid as women, and that it's the height of irresponsibility to conflate sex with gender in this situation.

Destroyedpeople · 19/07/2020 13:25

I quite often just cross out 'gender' and write 'sex'....

BreatheAndFocus · 19/07/2020 13:29

I cross out Gender and write Sex too.

I used to go with Other but then realised they might think I was one of the very special genders like Maverique or Frost or god knows what.

ShinyFootball · 19/07/2020 13:32

I'd probably tick other.

If they want gender then it doesn't matter does it. Gender is irrelevant to covid.

So this is the form
When you click on gender this is what it opens.

Name / Gender / Ethnicity

I've had a similar question on a state govt form recently. Asked me which gender I am, then provided boxes to tick for Female, Male, or "Other* [Please provide details]".
I ticked 'Other*', and in the space for 'Provide details', said I don't have a gender and I don't identify as, or with, any gender. But I am biologically female. An adult human female: Woman.

Also, "Female' and 'Male' refer to sex. If they're going to ask about 'gender' why not use the correct terms for gender-eg Feminine, Masculine? I mean, surely they don't want people to mistakenly think they're conflating sex and gender. And "No one's trying to erase sex" (etc)

There wasn't an extra box if you ticked other..In fact there is no "space" for writing an extra comment. Only when you have printed it off.

So I shall put something there
