Unbelievable Truth again - GC rant?

There have been a couple of threads on here pondering how deliberate David Mitchel is being in his decision to use "Woman - Adult human female" and "Man - Adult human male" as definitions on the show.

I've just listened to Episode 5 and at around 19 minutes in he launches into a delicious fury about the ridiculousness of saying that oranges are berries. Perhaps I am overthinking it, but the language he uses seems so deliberate - talking about taking an established definition and applying it to something else - that I would love to think it is a covert take down of TWAW/ gender identity bullshit.

Have a listen and see what you think!

Well, I heard this episode earlier in the week in the car and laughed along, but now you say it, it could easily be a coded message to the world!

I don't imagine Victoria Coren Mitchell would have much truck with the whole TWAW thing. She's built a career on poker (or is it bridge? Some card game, anyway) and that's pretty transgressive of the rigid gender stereotypes currently being dragged down from the attic and dusted off to demonstrate what good little conformist girls and boys ought to like, think, wear and do.

I'm going to believe it until I hear otherwise from his own mouth!

I think that David Mitchel is GC and that giving "woman" to Frankie Boyle was deliberate, but I think that you're reading too much into this one. He was just ranting about berries

highame · 17/07/2020 17:31

Not sure either, but if it is, it's very funny

He's said similar things before. He doesn't like the fact that tomatoes are a fruit and peanuts are not a nut.

Were I so inclined I'd interpret his views as a rejection of bioesentialism and an assertion that food is whatever it identifies as, but I think it's just a bit he does.

I'm not sure, David Mitchell went nuts over nuts in 2012:

Listen from 3 minutes in.

Just heard it now. Very funny. I too would be disappointed if him or VC were TWAW, they just seem too direct and sensible.

Victoria's brother Giles came off Twitter after some MRAs went round to his house and scared his wife.

I'm going to believe it until I hear otherwise from his own mouth!

Oh, it's gotta be, hasn't it? There's no way that that was solely about berries. Surely? Grin

Definitely GC now then, even if he wasn't before

It was a fair rant about berries.

Totally with him there.

And the bloody nuts. And while he is at it, can he do fruits and false fruits please. And fruits/vegetables.
