Has this been posted already? It's from an email they sent. I saw it on Twitter so I'll be back with links.

Action aids statement on trans inclusion

Beamur · 17/07/2020 22:07

Sounds like a back pedal to me.
They've perhaps realised that the previous statement was considerably more controversial than anticipated and are now going back to their trustees for a steer.

Spero · 17/07/2020 22:08

Telegraph have simply lifted my blog without talking to me. I am glad it's out there but this is just rude.

TornadoOfSouls · 17/07/2020 22:09

How could they possibly not realise that saying biological sex isn’t real would be controversial, though?

@aliasundercover

What I find especially silly and annoying is that nobody would object if they simply said that they were also helping transwomen. If they'd just written that transwomen were often vulnerable and needed their help as well women who would complain?

There is no need for them to write that we have to believe their ridiculous assertions, that women are undefinable and don't really exist, wokesplaining feminist principles to women.

I'd be happy to continue donating to a charity that helps women and transwomen. I will not donate to an organisation that instructs me what I should believe, and tells me it's unfeminist to have a different opinion.

Exactly. Supporting vulnerable transwomen and supporting transmen too. No problem with that.
bishopgiggles · 17/07/2020 22:19

FUCKING HELL why does it say it 'angered anti-trans campaigners' then go straight on to quote Debbie Hayton as a "campaigner for trans rights" AGREEING! (I.e. agreeing with people criticising the AA statement).

This lazy tarring of anyone writing anything about women, girls and biological sex as automatically being 'anti-trans' is such utter bullshit and serves to hide real transphobia as well as of course toxic misogyny.

Winesalot · 17/07/2020 22:21

Thanks for your initial tweet Spero. What a mess they have made. And the back pedal was weak, although I think they have realised just how convoluted their policy had become and how ridiculous.

Hopefully they will straighten it out soon and realise that biology is real, for everyone female on the planet but particularly those with high risks associated with their lives. And that denying sex causes even more harm.

CheeryTreeBlossom · 17/07/2020 22:23

From that telegraph article it sounds like the trustees haven't signed off on the change in mission statement?!

We take the topic of inclusion very seriously, however, trustees have not yet had the opportunity to discuss a policy in relation to the organisation’s charitable mission working with women and girls in the world's poorest countries.

“Trustees are committed to doing so. These are complex issues that require consideration and consultation with our stakeholders and rights holders.

Am ActionAid as just came up on my Facebook. All the comments from the past two days are about this. People are not happy.

Grateful for small mercies, eh? It’s time this nonsense was sorted out once and for all. It’s getting ridiculous.

I was sent the emails by another person on Twitter. She couldn't believe what she was reading. At least its out there - but the description of Maya is horrible and wrong. I am baffled why they just can't say it like it is. Everything is framed around 'trans rights', not women's rights.
maxicheddar · 18/07/2020 00:23

I am also outraged, and on the brink of cancelling my monthly donation.

This is insanity. Toxic, delusional, narcissistic, misogynistic insanity.

RedToothBrush · 18/07/2020 00:38

Trustees shit a brick as they realise the massive PR disaster at the same time as one of their major sources of income DFID is being merged into the FCO and it looks like the government budget for overseas development is going to shrink massively. ActionAidUk got £733,000 from the government in 2018.

Oh Dear.

AnneShirleyBlythe · 18/07/2020 00:47

Really shocked at this! They appeared to be a very female centred charity. Oh well, I will be cancelling my DD and letting them know why. Who should I give my small monthly do ation to instead? Already support Lumos and Vancouver Rape Relief so maybe I will just split it between them.

DopamineHits · 18/07/2020 00:49

OK... I'll make a note to research this before my next will review...

FantaOra · 18/07/2020 00:55

The problem isn't going to be resolved by kicking it up to Trustees. These are people who have self identified as the great and the good, and will largely need to be guided by the permanent executive team to make a statement because their greatness and goodness doesn't extend to actual practical sense. Expect further word salad. Expensively produced at an extraordinary meeting of the great and good.

StrangeLookingParasite · 18/07/2020 01:38

Another good place for redirecting donations would be the Hamlin fistula hospital or foundation.

Apileofballyhoo · 18/07/2020 01:54

I've a feeling some of the charity donations could be put to use defending women's rights in the UK. And children's safeguarding against trans ideology.

There is so much money being spent on pushing this shite.

OP posts:
FantaOra · 18/07/2020 02:32

Yes, for the last few years I've only contributed to women's rights crowdfunding. All my charity giving has been diverted to this important political challenge.

ShinyFootball · 18/07/2020 02:41

Anti trans?

Fuck off.

Positioning women who know that women and girls around the world are oppressed because of their biology is anti trans?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 18/07/2020 05:06

I've been appalled over the last 2 days by what I've seen about AA. I've been donating for over 24 years but seriously considering pulling that sponsorship now.
