Hoping this is a logistics delay rather than anything more Sinister.......

Yes - it’s on Scribd (print/screen not audio)

Just watched Posie's interview and loved it. I think this is actually an issue to do with parenting more generally in many ways. It will certainly make me question some of my own parenting decisions, not that I have female children, but still....

Interesting that there are reviews on amazon on a book we cant get. You can report them of course...

Helmetbymidnight · 14/07/2020 14:06

lots of verified reviews on amazon.com - especially from parents of trans teens- saying that its very good.

SerenityNowwwww · 14/07/2020 14:33

Oh the US site. Funny how the UK site - where noone can get their hands on it - has negative reviews. And you can get it for free if you take a 30 day free trial of Audible (do remember to cancel...).

@BigBadVoodooHat

I think (hope) it’s probably a Covid issue - I’ve had four pre-ordered books pushed back by several months, so I’m guessing print factories/distributors have been closed or had reduced hours/workforce.
Yeah, same. I have about ten books on pre-order, and all have had their dates moved. As have those we were meant to get over the past three months or so.

Having said that, Amazon won't sell My Body Is Me, which is the sweetest, most gentle book on body positivity and includes disabled kids, and boys in dresses and girls with short hair and dungarees, and the refrain, "I am my body, my body is me - it's a wonderful thing, I'm sure you'll agree!". Lots of mention of how different people like, and can do, different things, and that's all great. So I won't be amazed if I have to buy this somewhere else, either.

They sold Mein Kampf, and books by men on how to coerce consent, but wouldn't this. And how dare any parent want to encourage their preschooler to feel good about their bodies, and who they are - specially if that child is disabled? Because telling kids they're perfect as they are is bigotry and hatred of trans people. Definitely The Most Marginalised Group.

We live in a very odd world.

It's incredibly expensive -- beyond my budget. I wish publishers wouldn't do it. It would get a lot more readers and more sales at half that price.
I'll wait for the price to go down.

Lamahaha · 14/07/2020 15:09

^^ I mean the Kindle edition.

You can get it on Scribd - they have a free trial and are very good.

I might do that, but it's not just me.
With these high prices they are obstructing sales.

Abigail Shrier was on the Joe Rogan podcast today! I think her book will get a lot more attention now

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 17/07/2020 00:49

I walked in on DP listening to her on Joe Rogan (then tiptoed back out to let him digest it all on his own)

Mollyollydolly · 17/07/2020 02:37

I left a 5 star review. I don't normally bother but in this case felt it was important as the trolls are busy. Would be nice if others could do the same. It's a good read, I got the kindle edition and couldn't put it down.

SarahTancredi · 17/07/2020 09:12

I listened to that pod cast last night. She was very clear that the book was nothing to do with adult trans people. That it was a focus on teenage girls mental health.

I really dont get why there's so much push back about it. She sounded ( i didn't entirely agree with her on all view points ) pretty down to earth and sensible and open about who she is and what she does.

If the activists weren't bringing attention took to it far less people would have bought the book.

Now no date on amazon at all. ‘Delivery date pending’

Abhannmor · 20/07/2020 09:45

Blackwell Books are good . Boycotting Amazon ..

Anyone yet?

I was reminded of Man Made Language by Dale Spender. I must have a copy somewhere as we used it on my first degree (80s). I wonder how it reads now?

Floisme · 27/07/2020 11:26

No news about the book but I watched the Joe Rogan podcast and it was so interesting to see what the discussion looks like when you''re not looking over your shoulder and self censoring like on the BBC and indeed on here. There were a couple of times when you could see Rogan checking himself and then thinking 'Oh fuck it'.

I didn't realise Posie had interviewed her too so thanks, I'll look for that.

Dogman · 24/08/2020 23:18

Roswellconspiracy · 25/08/2020 00:29

I don't know how "Man Made Language" reads now, but the last chapter of Spender's "Women of Ideas" was horribly prophetic.

nonsenceagain · 25/08/2020 10:29

Got mine too Smile

OvaHere · 25/08/2020 12:21

Mine arrived on Sunday.

MondayYogurt · 25/08/2020 14:46

If you're a verified purchaser do leave a review. There are lots of unverified 1 stars.

ValancyRedfern · 25/08/2020 14:59

Mine was due to arrive today but just been told it's delayed.
