Irish radio recently

Apologies if there has already been a thread on this.

I've half heard (I have young children so lots of interruptions) a few pieces on trans issues recently on the radio, last week Joe Duffy had a woman on talking about her son who's reassignment surgery was delayed because of Covid I think... and then a couple of days later there was a MtF farmer (from maybe Cork?) who is now known as Erica and has "always known they were different"... Joe asked them what they loved about being a woman and he said something like he loved looking at his nails done and having his hair long Confused .

Then today Brendan O'Connor had John Banville on the cancel culture letter which was signed by himself (Banville) and JKR. Brendan asked him had it come about because of JK's recent "trouble" around issues and Banville said he didn't know anything about that Hmm . I only heard the start of that interview and wonder did they discuss JK and trans any further?

Also wondering has anyone else heard these pieces and a bit fed up of the completely one sided approach from RTE?

Ray D'Arcy also had a young trans couple on a while back (as in one MtF and one FtM) and all the texts in to the show that he read allowed were along the stunning and brave angle. It can't be that all listeners would have the same view on this!
I should prob stop listening to RTE...

They probably would be too scared to read out texts that werent "oh you are stunning and brave"

Matt Cooper had Peter Tatchell on. Hmm

I mainly listen to news talk. Ciara Kelly had a go at Tatchell on Twitter I think. I can't say I usually enjoy her show but fair play.

Ivan Yeats annoys me so I usually listen to Rte for that slot.

Pat Kenny had Prof Donal O Shea on recently enough I think. Ray D'arcy had a load of TRAs on - I just spotted that when I was googling. I'll find the links.

This actually made me laugh but I'm not sure it's supposed to.

The big issue is who really cares?

Just do what you want to and just do it.

This issue is getting far too much traction for a miniscule number of people who are trans. Just transition and be done with it. Thanks and goodnight

In fairness to GCN their reporting seems very factual.

Can you complain OP? I complain about bias from the BBC all the time... Hmm

ohnoitsagruffalo · 13/07/2020 19:21

Thanks all I really must complain...not great at putting my thoughts into words but I suppose something about bias and not having enough gender critical people on.
