Had a quick search. Is the word Woman not used anywhere on the app?

Cismyfatarse1 · 10/07/2020 15:01

You have to download it to review it on the App Store but worth doing.

Bloody hell.

And there are almost no late transitioning FTM people. Is this, therefore, meant to make the MTF feel welcome?

I don't get it.

DianasLasso · 10/07/2020 15:02

Aimed at 50% of the population, hmm? Which 50% will that be? The ones with surnames A to M? The ones below 5'6" in height? The ones with dark hair? How do I know if I'm in the demographic that needs this app? I am deeply puzzled, I tell you.

Thank fuck my GP is happy to talk to me about women's health issues when I go in for my annual review of my HRT needs.

Bingo

The “Carla” version is for women. By a woman, too.

HDDD · 10/07/2020 15:33

This app is from a woman too - Dr Louise Newson, and, I think a female led agency.

There are next to no middle aged FTM people who have to worry about menopause. Plenty the other way round. For reasons that we are not allowed to say. This is entirely about men controlling the use of the word woman. This disgusts me.

merrymouse · 10/07/2020 15:44

Have they found a word to replace woman? - 'menopauser', 'menopausee'??

DaisiesandButtercups · 10/07/2020 15:45

It might be a problem with magnetic north more than the balance app itself. I looked up a video of the doctor talking about the app and she used the word women... also the first thing to come up on Google about the balance app contained the word woman.

ShinyFootball · 10/07/2020 15:47

Hmm I think the current male preferences for names will work?

Old bags/ bats
Mutton dressed as lamb
Past it
Etc etc
I mean the ones that can even see women over 40, obviously

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 10/07/2020 15:49

Blimey.

It’s not as if MTF people even bother to approximate menopause - they continuously take cross sex hormones to levels associated with women in the reproductive stages of life, they don’t adjust to imitate the hormonal drop actual women experience at peri and post menopausal stages.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2020 15:51

I did actually once speak to an MTF trans person who planned to simulate menopause when middle aged. But only one.

ShinyFootball · 10/07/2020 15:54

But it's not simulating menopause is it.

While transmen will get chucked into sudden menopause if they have a hysterectomy.

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/07/2020 15:57

Maybe it is for the Male menopause as well as the female menopause.
Maybe men can chart their testosterone levels etc

Not downloaded the app but maybe it is for both biological men as well as women

If it isn’t then the wording is strange and misleading.

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/07/2020 15:59

The mind boggles. How can you simulate the stopping of something that you didn’t have in the first place

bellinisurge · 10/07/2020 16:08

The menopause is not a fucking eyeliner. You can't "put it on to feel more like a woman". It fucks up your life if you don't manage it carefully with support from your gp along with important meds (if you want them) which are currently in short supply.
So fuck off anyone who wants to simulate it. Why not ask your MP why there are shortages of HRT. They might give a shit as long as you don't say you actually need it.

bellinisurge · 10/07/2020 16:12

You do get a free invisibility cloak with it though. By the time you are in your 70s, it works brilliantly. No one gives a shit about 70 year old women. And they barely notice you once you are biologically useless to society as a woman.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2020 16:15

But it's not simulating menopause is it.

No, of course it isn't. I refrained from adding that the person would revert to looking like any other late middle aged male in pretty short order. Rather than a late middle aged female. Did they think you can't actually tell the difference or something?

HDDD · 10/07/2020 16:16

Good spot, wonder why?
OP posts:
Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2020 16:16

I actually wondered that too.

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/07/2020 16:17

You can't "put it on to feel more like a woman

Maybe for a few years he is going to go to bed with several heated blankets that turn on randomly through out the night and/or set his alarm so he wakes up after 3 hours sleep and has to get up and function throughout the day and he is going to eat himself silly and put on 2 stone and not lose it

HDDD · 10/07/2020 16:17

And I wonder how the doctor feels about the word woman disappearing from their promo about the app

OP posts:
Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2020 16:18

Newson Health has been created to allow women to receive unbiased, evidence-based advice and treatment for their perimenopause and menopause. We have created our menopause and wellbeing centres, in Stratford-upon-Avon and the North West, to be centres of excellence providing care to women of all ages.

The doctor's clinic.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 10/07/2020 16:29

They've tweeted about this but it looks as if nobody sees their account - which given their inability to use the word woman in relation the the menopause is probably a good thing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2020 16:52

It doesn't appear to be the doctor's own wording.
