Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

A reminder to check the petition board and that if you post a petition here it gets moved to petitions

Not only do posts on petitions get moved to the petition boards, but the thread on here reminding FWRs posters that there is a petition board seems to have been censored or at least disappeared!

So worth checking out petitions: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/petitions_noticeboard

There are some good ones recently posted in there.

  • Say no to majority mixed sex toilets at Musselburgh Grammar School

  • Fund improved neurodiversity diagnosis, identification and support in schools

  • Increase funding for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

  • Remove parental responsibility of convicted child sex offenders

  • Abolish time limits to bring charges for offences for acts of domestic violence

  • Stop Serial Domestic Violence Perpetrators and Stalkers Abusing Multiple Women

  • Require local authorities to fund specific domestic abuse services for women

Bump, thanks for the reminder

ArabellaScott · 28/03/2021 11:04

Ta, some worthy causes there.

ArabellaScott · 28/03/2021 11:04

It would be good if we could choose which boards to pin to a sort of personalised MN, wouldn't it?

hedgehogger1 · 28/03/2021 11:06

You can pick which boards to follow

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 28/03/2021 12:23

How can we find the petitions board without the link? Is it on the list somewhere that I haven’t found yet.? I see that there are several petitions that will be important to sign. I just wish someone was taking notice .

OhHolyJesus · 15/04/2021 09:33

If you search petitions in topics you will get there Thecat

It's petitions and activism x

Thelnebriati · 15/04/2021 10:30

@highame Seriously? You've posted a link on a thread that is to remind people not to post links on threads or the entire thread is moved Angry

It's in the 'classified' section in the list of topics by category, or you can find it in the A-Z list of all topics.
highame · 15/04/2021 16:37

Bit of a blunder, misunderstood Blush

stumbledin · 15/04/2021 17:21

I's forgotten I started this thread, but recently had a post about a survey based on the results of a petition moved to petitions even though it wasn't about the petition but the opportunity to respond directly to MPS via a survey.

So I reposted the bit about the survey with an allusion to the petition but no link, so it would not be banished. And then a helpful poster posted the link to the petition saying was this the link you were looking for!

Its all a bit Kafkaesque.

Why cant petitions been in the mumsnet category they are related to?

Confused

I believe it's an anti spam tactic. Makes no sense to me, unless a link actually is being spammed across many boards.

I've got a reminder thread too, but happy to bump yours!

stumbledin · 15/04/2021 17:58

Have no strong feelings about this thread, it was only because someone used it (see recent posts above) that is came up in my alerts!

But it is worth having two or more threads on this as I have found quite a few new petitions have been added!

Thecatonthemat · 16/04/2021 09:22

Practically impossible to find. The classified section index says more but does not elaborate what more includes. I would much prefer to see it included in feminism somewhere, for those petitions and others in other sections. Why are they hidden ? Even if it’s to avoid spam, they should be getting more traffic.

stumbledin · 16/04/2021 14:59

Agreed that until someone told me where to find petitions I wouldn't have found it.

Never occured to me it would be in Classifieds - which I think for most people has a fairly specific meaning.

Have just seen classified also includes charity notice board. Cant they have a category called activism or social engagement or something.

Given that there is a separate section for "For sale" which should be in classified.

This is so frustrating! I understand that we don't want to be spammed with a load of petitions for irrelevant stuff but these are matters of serious concern/discussion on the feminist boards. MNHQ, could we have a chat about this please? And maybe a bit more flexibility?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2021 15:40

It is an odd categorisation. Maybe start a thread in Site Stuff for your suggestions? I've nagged about this before, I don't understand why petitions posted in any of the feminism sections couldn't be moved to the Feminist Activism board, since it exists.
ErrolTheDragon · 16/04/2021 15:44

I'm thinking of starting an AIBU thread signposting the petitions board. It's not just feminist concerns, there's all sorts of issues there that people would be interested in if they looked. Schools, healthcare etc etc. Some are best ignored but others deserve not to be consigned to tumbleweed.
