Good article.

Thanks, great resource.

Thanks - important to lay it out like that. You cannot (unless you are a total loon) avoid seeing the misogyny involved in the decision.

"Remember the human"

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said “I have to admit that I’ve struggled with balancing my values as an American, and around free speech and free expression, with my values and the company’s values around common human decency.”

Clearly thinks the 51% of us who are female aren't human. So don't count. Obvs.

Wow, there was some stuff in that article that was new to me, Reddit is even more disgusting and hypocritical than I'd realised.

The levels of brutality, abuse, degradation and dehumanisation of women, especially black women, on the site are massive, and a huge problem. By allowing this content and removing discussion from the site, Reddit have pretty much shown where their priorities lie.

Remember the human, unless that human is female.

Women have no female-only spaces on the site now, even the ironically named two x chromosomes states that trans women are women, despite not actually having two x chromosomes.

Not just that, but despite their rule of ‘keeping it civil’, they explicitly tell feminists to ‘eff right off’.

I'm glad the subredit is gradually growing again after the move to saidit.net/s/GenderCritical/ a lot of people on the new peak thread crediting the horrific abuse aimed at JKR for finally having opened their eyes to the truth.

I never really looked at the GC board - and then when it got shut down, I thought it was so strange that I had to look into it. I traveled through a lot of archived posts and I have yet to come across something that I thought was transphobic (of course, I may not be there yet).

I did have a read of the newly reinstated reddit PCOS board and it was beyond bizarre. Looking at the title, is seems to be a support group for anyone suffering from PCOS. And then there were several trans women mods who discussed in detail how the discussion could be held not to make anyone uncomfortable. So far I was with it, of course any trans men should feel welcome.

But then is spiralled into some discussion about if women could say that they didn’t feel feminine with the side effects of PCOS Shock. Because, you know, trans women might take offence. At least one of the mods appeared to be a trans woman and they were having a lot of input. I found it weird that a sub reddit, created for a specific illness needed to evaluate in detail whether the symptoms of that specific illness could be discussed. In case it injured the feelings of a group not suffering from that illness.

It appears that many online female health and forums related to female biology are now policed moderated by transwomen.

The only reason for this is to shut us up.
TW have absolutely no need to be involved in a sub about PCOS.

I'm on the PCOS Reddit forum which is generally a lovely, polite place with lots of genuine discussion. Lots of people are genuinely confused about what is allowed and what isn't and the (new) mods are snippy and rude when asked. Suggestions such a using 'people with vaginas' rather than female have been made!

Greenpoppins · 08/07/2020 20:00

@Whatsnewpussyhat lots of transwomen have stopped by saying 'thank you for being so inclusive, I can now support people in my life with ovaries'. I'm more concerned to be honest with all the older women who are clearly being isolated from the group by the new mods.

I had a scroll through GenderCriticalGuys earlier, and they linked to GenderCynical where a TW had 'bad vibes' because the Periods subreddit had the word woman in the description, shock horror. And what's even worse, the bastard mods won't let you refer to women as body parts 😱

But that's the point isn't it. Female health issues, like our sex class, shouldn't have to be "inclusive" to adult males. How fucking dare they tell women we can't use the very words we have to describe ourselves!

Lets not pretend that they give a shit about the trans men, who, as much as I have sympathy for, the tiny number who have a problem with their own biology should not get to dictate to the language used by the 99.5+% of us who don't.

As a woman who has had constant issues with my reproductive organs for over 20 years I am not prepared to pretend I am some sexless neutral entity. Fuck that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 23:46

Oh yes those well known Reddit values Grin

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 23:49

If anyone is still thinking this language issue is about "trans men" they are very naive.

lady69 · 09/07/2020 00:40

Reddit values is an oxymoron!

GrossePois · 09/07/2020 08:17

Some idiot on twitter told me that all women centric groups on twitter are hate groups because women are the majority of the population, so of course it makes sense they will all be banned! 🤦‍♀️
