Paris Lees and public toilets

I can't see another thread on this, but I am still slightly stunned by what I've just read so I might not have looked properly

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8497971/Vogue-columnist-Paris-Lees-says-isnt-outrage-abuse-vulnerable-LGBT-teens.html

How do we make vulnerable teenage girls safer in toilets Paris?? Gosh, it's a real problem. If only us boring old saggy-titted women had any ideas about this...

so does she want all kids or just trans kids to be safe in toilets....? I'm not quite sure what she means by 'hypothetical threats'.

Why aren't people upset at something we KNOW is happening to vulnerable LGBT kids?'
'Are we saying it's OK? For children to walk into toilets and be abused? We're going to ignore that to focus on hypothetical threats?'

gardenbird48 · 07/07/2020 20:22

that second quoted sentence should also be in italics btw - I should have used preview first - sorry

Kantastic · 07/07/2020 20:33

Just male children.

Female children aren't people. Why even mention or consider them? Paris has a great plan which could make male children safer in the toilets, by giving them some other toilets that were lying around spare with no one using them. Of course there's nothing stopping adult men following male children into these convenient spare toilets Paris has discovered - but just think about it! 200% of the toilet space means 50% of the chance of encountering a predator!

Superb, Paris. Fucking superb plan. Absolutely no downsides at all... unless one is transphobic enough to remember that women exist.

OldCrone · 07/07/2020 20:42

We're going to ignore that to focus on hypothetical threats?

There's nothing hypothetical about what Katie Dolatowski did.

^^

What Kantastic said.

I feel at times like female humans are like the Whos shouting on their speck "we are here! we are here! we are here!" desperately trying to be heard by the males intent on their own busy male-only, male-benefitting plans.

BewaretheIckabog · 07/07/2020 20:50

As I understand it, Paris had not identified as trans at this point so not a trans issue. Predatory sexual abuse against minors is horrific. Sounds like she was abused as a 14 year old boy.

When your talent is limited and the only thing interesting about you is your gender identity, you need to jump on the bandwagon.

OldCrone · 07/07/2020 20:53

Lees said: 'I tell @mrjamesob in this interview about having sex with grown men in public toilets when I was 14.

Instead of being outraged about women trying to protect all children, whatever their sexuality and however they identify, perhaps Lees should have a word with Peter "it's not abuse if the child enjoys it" Tatchell, or Juno Dawson, who has written a book for teens which portrays a teenager having an "active, app-based sex life with married men from outlying commuter towns" as an aspirational lifestyle.

BewaretheIckabog · 07/07/2020 20:53

I will caveat my last post by saying I am sorry Paris went through that but cannot see what it has to do with the trans debate unless it was these experiences which made her decide she did not feel like or want to be a boy / man.

AbsintheFriends · 07/07/2020 20:56

You're all articulating it so much better than I am. The rage. It's outright gaslighting, isn't it? And DARVO?

And what's the fucking betting that James O'Brien will be all head-tilt, sadface, special concerned voice about the issue of safety in toilets now that it's been wokesanctioned and made into a stunning and brave LGBTQ issue.

Absolutely agree Beware. The problem is, overwhelmingly, predatory men, so it seems bizarre that TRAs are trying to remove the barriers that prevent predatory men accessing young people by doubling the places they can enter rather than looking at how they can reduce access and increase safeguarding. And PL totally fails to address this, and implies that women's concerns are 'hypothetical'.

quixote9 · 08/07/2020 02:08

"Hypothetical"? "Hypothetical" "HYPOTHETICAL"?

How do these people manage it? How can you deny screamingly obvious facts without any repercussions? If PL strutted around saying PL was Napoleon, PL would have been committed, presumably? But this gets you on the Beeb and taken seriously? ??

There needs to be a class action lawsuit by creationists and flat-earthers and gravity-deniers for not getting equal treatment.

Paris’s messages are all a bit confused. As a gay boy in a mining town who wasn’t allowed to play with girl toys, and started gay sex work at 14 after an incident in a male washroom, through drugs and prison, I think Paris does have a particular interest in toilets.
The background is fairly straightforward gay conversion though - you aren’t a boy because you don’t like boy things or behave like a boy, you fag, so ergo Paris must be a woman. As transition stories go, it’s fairly ordinary, with the additional layer or rebirth away from prostitution, drugs and prison.
They fuck you up, your mum and dad, they do not mean to, but they do.... etc etc.

madwoman1ntheattic · 08/07/2020 15:32

It’s very interesting that it’s the toilets that Paris fixates on, though. I kinda get it. In an escape from manhood and predatory adult males kinda way. It’s almost as though Paris believes that ALL male bogs are hotbeds of predatory gay sex that boys must be saved from. It’s a very interesting armchair psych glimpse into Paris’s understanding of the world. I do have a shred of sympathy.

happydappy2 · 08/07/2020 17:45

The irony is that women are trying to keep children safe by retaining single sex spaces-specifically toilets, which Mums bring young children into, because we know they MIGHT not be safe in the mens.

PL constantly tweets how they will continue to use womens toilets because 'how can we police entry?'

Personal responsibility Paris, that's what-if you know you're infringing on a single sex provision just stay out.

TorkTorkBam · 08/07/2020 17:57

Women and girls are just hypothetical concepts to Paris.
