Transgender in prison

I have often seen the argument that transwomen should be going to the prison that they identify as it would be dangerous for them in a male prison but I never really see anything about transmen.

There must be transmen in prisons but surely they wouldn't go to a male prison or am I being naive?

Do transmen also demand access to male only spaces or are their voices just lost by the TRAs who only seem to advocate for transwomen?

In that recent series of articles about sexual assaults in women's prisons by trans prisoners, one of the facts to come out of that was that all prisoners who identified as trans men (20) were in women's prisons.

I expect that biological reality when faced with being locked up with 100's of natal males suddenly seems important.

I might be wrong but I don't think transmen are allowed to be put in men's prisons for obvious reasons.

I'm fairly sure that I've seen that the prison service won't consider TM being placed in male facilities as they cannot manage the risk to the TM's safety.

There is however a thread somewhere on FWR about a year ago now discussing prison provision where a MNetter shared that they had DSD and had spent time in a male prison, being male presenting but having female anatomy. They explained that the prison service were unaware of their DSD until they were inside the prison but managed their safety throughout, including getting sanitary products to them and assuring privacy in a cell, when showering, in toilets etc, without any other prisoner ever realising. The MNetter explained their ongoing confusion about TW being unsafe in male prisons having experienced this system used for vulnerable prisoners and seen how it worked for them. It made very interesting reading.

I would very much doubt that a trans man would want to be in a male prison, but in the unlikely event they did I can’t imagine the powers that be would allow it, it would just be too dangerous.

You never hear much about trans men at all unless they get pregnant do you? I suppose there aren’t many sporting records they’d have a hope of breaking and women just don’t look as comical dressed as men as vice versa.

There are very few female born trans people in prisons and they are in the female estate for their own safety.
