I complained about the presence of Mermaids in the action line webpage with no alternative viewpoint especially considering the Newsnight programme that was all about how medical professionals felt external pressure groups (not named, but presumably including Mermaids) had negatively impacted the safety of patients at the Tavistock. To me, it was just astounding. Got this response...(see below).Pretty disappointed with the BBC. Is there any further complaint process?
"Thank you for your feedback on the Newsnight report on Jun 18.
With BBC Action Line, we offer a range of options to people under each topic. In the support for gender identity, we firstly advise that people “should contact their GP as a first course of action.” And that “Information about Gender Dysphoria from the NHS is available at the NHS website.”
All the organisations on Action Line need to fulfil a number of criteria in order to be included as sources of information.
We thank you for your comments and suggestions on the organisations listed for gender support, and will review the information we provide.
Kind regards,
BBC Complaints Team
