Private Eye on the targeting of JKR and demands for re-education

Gotta love PE! Latest doesn't hold back on the hounding of JKR.

... trans activists who declared that radical feminists "need punching and re-educating."

The young stars of the Harry Potter movies condemned Rowling; online abusers told her to "suck my lady dick"; the Body Shop trolled her on Twitter and implied that its owner (a Brazilian cosmetics conglomerate) could educate her on human rights.

I really like Private Eye. Their investigative journalism is actually very good and useful (not just random screenshots of Tweets). It's also funny. They've been looking at 'Terf Wars' for some time now.

@unwashedanddazed

Their coverage of the Post Office scandal has been amazing. Most news outlets have only recently mentioned it, but PE has been digging away at this for years. Their focus on the victims, just ordinary postmasters, and exposure of the cowardice and hypocrisy of those at the top has been admirable.
The stuff they’ve done on the Beer Tie was really good, too as well as loads on disability inequality and local council shenanigans.
WildishBambino · 02/07/2020 13:04

I think the pro-feminist stuff is written by Francis Wheen. A good bloke, and worth a follow on twitter.

RoyalCorgi · 02/07/2020 13:11

Yes, Francis Wheen (deputy editor) has no time for the antics of TRAs.

But I find myself frustrated by Private Eye. It has published more brilliant investigative journalism than almost any other publication including, as a PP mentioned, the Post Office computer system scandal. But all they've done with the TRA madness is the odd little humorous snippet, such as this one about JKR. They could do so much more. Let's face it, there are so many rich pickings it could fill a whole issue without any problem. I think there is a little bit of cowardice going on.

I think I might get a sub for people for presents this year two. I genuinely feel so protected by grown up media who support free speech even that which I don't agree with. We live in times where people are genuinely terrified to speak up and I don't want rightthink government which is decided by whoever shouts the most threateningly or moderates Twitter.

26 issues for £34, free UK postage!

What a bargain!

Have signed up too!

Agree Royal Corgi. Just splash on this. Splash on the corruption at the heart of this ideology, the dodgy figureheads, the regulatory capture. There’s several months’ worth of front page scoops right there.

Roseburn · 02/07/2020 13:50

I do hope they pick up on the Damian Barr hypocrisy.

Needs mainstream calling out.

20mum · 02/07/2020 14:05

Love it. But.......Every edition makes me laugh, but then leaves me dispondent. It's analogous to documentaries of horrible cruelty or planet destruction. I am helpless and powerless. My entire lifelong efforts at ethical living and consuming are merely a matchstick against a gale.

Just can't stand that there is so much underhand dealing, trough rolling, inefficiency, incompetence , misogyny, disablism, ageism and cruelty running the world and our lives. All topped off with corrupt power of every kind, everywhere. All untouched, unchallenged, immune and arrogant.

I know there are good people in the world, hard working, kind, honest, and, to the extent they have power, using it to help, not harm. Informing me about the latest antics of the others makes me doubly unhappy, at knowing, and about being impotent to help.

20mum · 02/07/2020 14:06

despondent

Placemarking and joining in with the weird spelling masturbates.

BaronessBrighterThanYou · 02/07/2020 14:19

Place marking, sorry!
