Just seen on Twitter

Amazon have teamed up with Mermaids
OP posts:

From today no Tesco and Amazon. From before no body shop. No flora. I get most of my clothes from charity shops because I can't afford expensive clothes and I know that a lot of more affordable shops have unethical practices. I feel better buying them second hand.

Fantasisa · 28/06/2020 00:33

Oh this is going to hurt to boycott, turns out I care more about the unnecessary transing of children than I do workers rights and tax avoidance.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/06/2020 01:23

I can't believe Amazon don't have people capable of looking further.

And thinking!

Obviously not.

FFS!

Twats.

ShinyFootball · 28/06/2020 04:15

What happened to supporting the other letters in the rainbow.?

KingofDinobots · 28/06/2020 06:41

Oh fuck.

Pretty much everything we’ve bought over lockdown has been from Amazon.

I’m now going to have to close my account.

PsuedoSatisfactionBaby · 28/06/2020 06:47

Very rarely buy goods from amazon...but....kindle books...that’s another matter...this will hurt

concernedforthefuture · 28/06/2020 07:28

This boycott will be hard for me, but it will also benefit the small businesses that badly need all the support that they can get right now.

KingofDinobots · 28/06/2020 07:39

Yes losing kindle unlimited hurts a bit.
But you can still get books for your kindle - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/damonwakes.wordpress.com/2018/11/21/use-your-kindle-without-amazon-its-easier-than-youd-think/amp/

ChinWhiskers · 28/06/2020 07:51

Someone else asked this and I genuinely want to know how and why are mermaids climbing the charity ladder, queue jumping and getting access to so much so fast?
Who do they have that is pulling all the strings? They must have higher up heavy powers... or is this power simply a momentum from woke millenials and social media?

MsMarvellous · 28/06/2020 08:00

DH is on board with quitting amazon if I can replace the music we get for amazon prime. Is Spotify ok or are they on the bandwagon too? I can ditch prime and swap to a Spotify account for about the same amount.

bandbsmummy · 28/06/2020 09:25

FFS. Spoke to DH this morning and we're going to cancel prime and our Tesco delivery pass as soon as we've sourced alternatives. We have a lot of stuff on subscribe and save.

Anyone know where you can bulk buy pampers which is safe? Can't switch as DC allergic to everything else we've tried Angry

Bluebellbike · 28/06/2020 11:07

Damn. My prime membership renewed in April. I thought it was July and went to my account to cancel it. Waste of the best part of £79.🙄

KingofDinobots · 28/06/2020 12:03

Does anybody know what the details of this are? Are they promoting mermaids or actively giving them money?

WildfirePonie · 28/06/2020 13:01

Just cancelled prime. It was about time anyway!

KingofDinobots · 28/06/2020 13:02

Thanks @Bananabixfloof

Bananabixfloof · 28/06/2020 13:36

Sorry I posted the link and then got distracted by doggos. Meant to add it looks like mermaids have been added to the smile@amazon list of charities. As well as some more direct fundraising with whatever they are doing for pride. I've looked on Facebook and currently it's not going too well, a few aww we just wanna help the poor twans folk, and more that say mermaids ain't all its cracked up to be.

endlessginandtonic · 28/06/2020 13:42

or is this power simply a momentum from woke millenials and social media?

I think this is the case.
It reminds me very strongly of Kids Company I would assume a high risk of the final outcome being the same.
It is the trendy thing of the moment with people who haven't really thought through what they are supporting and who is running it.

Gingerkittykat · 28/06/2020 13:55

I wonder how much Mermaids has raked in from Tesco, Starbucks, Amazon and others over the year and what they plan on doing with it?

SylvanianFrenemies · 28/06/2020 13:58

@Bluebooby try Etsy. You can find makers in the area you are sending to.

Bluebooby · 28/06/2020 14:07

Thanks slyvanian I've never tried etsy. I've got a Tesco order on the way that I can't cancel, but after that I'm done with them. I have to write and explain why.

Someone else asked this and I genuinely want to know how and why are mermaids climbing the charity ladder, queue jumping and getting access to so much so fast?

@ChinWhiskers they must have friends in high places. It just doesn't add up. Nor does it add up that the most oppressed group in the history of humanity seemingly have all the big corporations on their side. I've "followed the money" before and it does seem to point to interesting places but I think there's more to it than we know.

beta.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-details/?regid=1160575&subid=0

In googling for this I've seen a just giving page with loads of donations, and when I clicked through it said just giving aren't taking there percentage as it's such a good cause. 🤷‍♀️

ScrapThatThen · 28/06/2020 14:46

So which charities does just giving consider not as good?

Gingerkittykat · 28/06/2020 14:46

Just giving still managed to take their percentage when Tom Moore raised the £20m for charity despite it being a very good cause.

ScrapThatThen · 28/06/2020 14:48

Happy to buy elsewhere, safeguarding comes first.
