Every Saturday morning her comment is the first thing I read in the Times and she never disappoints:

That article made me a bit emotional. Nailed it as always. She's the reason for my sub, too.

rabbitwoman · 27/06/2020 06:38

Really strong - I love it!

NotBadConsidering · 27/06/2020 06:39

Spot on. The hypocrisy of those writers too. Those stats on Twitter are interesting.

Xanthangum · 27/06/2020 06:46

Thank you for the share token. And much love to Janice x

exLtEveDallas · 27/06/2020 06:50

It’s another excellent piece - Janice is the reason I finally subscribed, she just gets better and better.

The earlier comments were being overtaken by a rather shrill activist, but the sane people arrived, so that is good Wink

catsareme14 · 27/06/2020 06:54

A brilliant piece of writing , thank you for posting a link to it .

WendyHoused · 27/06/2020 07:02

Janice is spot on as usual. Thanks for the share.

Lamahaha · 27/06/2020 07:13

One of her very best. It needs to be spread far and wide. How can any decent human being not see the hypocrisy and sheer misogynistic spite behind the movement to discredit the Baroness?
Despite everything she holds the moral high ground. She will not be toppled from that.

BovaryX · 27/06/2020 07:17

In Wisconsin this week protesters toppled the “Forward” statue at the state capitol. It depicts a heroic woman in classical garb with an arm raised and (rare for that time) was created by a female artist. It celebrates women’s suffrage. But a few tugs and it fell. No one could say why. It was just old-fashioned and therefore synonymous with evil. If no one speaks up, anything and anyone can be brought down now^

That wasn't the only statue pulled down in Wisconsin. Hans Christian Heg's statue was also felled. He was an abolitionist who died in the Civil War. The historical illiteracy of the Robespierre faction is something to behold.

BovaryX · 27/06/2020 07:33

the hypocrisy and gall of Lord Willetts in signing that letter, when his voting record suggests he must share her views, is staggering. Did he believe that in disavowing a fellow Tory peer, he might himself be spared the firing squad? The mob still might come for him

This reminds me of a quote by someone whose statue may yet fall to in the purity storm

Each one hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will eat him last

rogdmum · 27/06/2020 07:40

I adore Janice. I absolutely adore her. She is exactly the person we need at exactly this point in time, both to cheer me up personally and gain greater public awareness generally.

NotAssigned · 27/06/2020 07:46

Brava Janice.

Brilliant writing.

I ditched my guardian subscription ages ago and replaced it with a Times one.

AskDan · 27/06/2020 07:50

On Radio 4 now...

EmpressLangClegSpartacus · 27/06/2020 07:54

Janice is the reason I subscribed to the Times too.

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/06/2020 07:57

What a fantastic piece. And the comments are very heartening. Thank you for sharing.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 27/06/2020 08:00

How dignified. And what a great article.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 08:00

Blisteringly good column.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 27/06/2020 08:04

@AskDan

On Radio 4 now...
I was referring to this with the “How dignified” comment, though Janice is too.
BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 08:05

What was on Radio 4?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 27/06/2020 08:09

Am interview with the Booker prize someone followed by an interview with the Baroness

isabellerossignol · 27/06/2020 08:10

Janice Turner is such a great writer on this issue.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 27/06/2020 08:11

Today programme, radio 4, 7.55 am ish

AskDan · 27/06/2020 08:14

Sorry..that is right ...interview with the baroness. Sorry was making breakfast.

In her view, the Booker would not still exist without her input.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 27/06/2020 08:15

Excellent article
