Aimee Challenor and conversion therapy

Trans activist Aimee Challenor is pushing for LGBT conversion therapy to be banned. I get that.

At the same time, I found this...

...liked by her husband (KharonAlpua) on his soundcloud account. It's a hypnotic track.

And on Reddit, I know he's recommended people look for YouTube hypnotism videos if they're interested in becoming gay or bi.

All I'm saying is we can't do politics in the UK like this. If people are pushing for political changes they need to start being honest.

By the way, I mentioned on twitter - I think yesterday - about Aimee's husband liking this track and this morning I woke up to see he's removed the like and stopped following a number of the dodgy accounts he was following. Pretty efficient right.

Fortunately, I kind of suspected such action so I archived it before putting the tweet up.

We need to clean up politics.

I'm not sure how the two issues are connected. Pushing for conversion therapy to be banned is a very wise and good thing to do. I heartily support anyone who does it, regardless of whether I share their other beliefs. Conversion therapy is brutally cruel and dangerous. It causes so much unhappiness.

Kharon Alpua is a separate individual with separate beliefs from Aimee Challenor. Challenor is not the guardian of his morality.

Unless we start clearly, calmly looking at each individual aspect of this messy rights war and reacting fairly and rationally to each one, we won't make any progress. Saying 'she says this but her husband does something which sort of contradicts it' just isn't the adult way forward.

When you say Aimee Challenor has separate beliefs from KharonAlpua (Nathaniel) - on this point - you don't know that.

Aimee could well be happy for conversion therapy to be used to make heterosexual people gay or straight, or cis people trans, but just object to it being used the other way around.

That's why the "adult way forward" is for Aimee, or her husband, to clarify.

For example, making a statement that says, (1) that she believes all conversion therapy is wrong, including the other-way-around conversion therapy, and (2) clearly state that she condemns what he wrote on Reddit about making straight people gay or bi.

The "adult way forward" is not to just block anyone who tries to hold you to account on twitter and then destroy the evidence on the net they were pointing to ASAP.

Sorry, but that's not the way to do politics.

Sorry, also, if you're going to campaign on something you need to get your own house in order first.
