From a company that makes its money selling hypnobirthing to women no less. Sorry, birthing people.

I read that as a midwife remembering their own birth.

I don’t remember my birth and it really doesn't matter.

It really does matter to new mothers if you erase their womanhood.

I remember birthing a person. It fucking hurt.

I'm confused - Is this about people being hypnotised so that they remember their own birth?

Hypnotising midwives and gynaecologists perhaps?

As for the rest of it

No despite the name, hypnobirthing doesn’t have anything to do with being hypnotised.

I’ve actually done the course (which is how I spotted this). I thought it had a lot of sound information, especially the science section which goes into anatomy and the mechanics of birth. Which is actually quite funny given that post.

IMVFHO, this isn't a convincing ad for a process that depends on giving clear instructions.

I mean if they want to appeal to only five potential customers, why don't they just sell them on cassette tape instead and save themselves the trouble?
I did see lately an advert for one of those grammar checking computer thingies that was using a "consider using gender-neutral language" angle in their advert to show how woke they were. It makes me think this sort of clunky wording in advertising copy is probably just the new equivalent of people religiously accepting what their spellchecker had to say 10 years ago. Or driving into the sea courtesy of sat-nav 5 years ago. Hopefully it'll blow over soon.

I've fixed it for them:

"The way that women remember giving birth really matters."

That's better. (Even if it's not entirely grammatically correct.)

I just had a look on their Instagram and this is one of their replies to someone - “you’ll be happy to know medical settings acknowledge birthing people and seek to use appropriate language. Medical settings (where birth often takes place) recognise that trans men can give birth and that not everyone identifies as a woman. If you need some help with educational resources, we’ll be more than happy to signpost you” ......

Thank goodness I had my children before I could be referred to as a “birthing person”!

To be fair to the Positive Birth Company, they refer to 'women' all over their Facebook page, so I think at worst they have just not thought about the conotations of this. This is apparently a re-share of an Instagram post by someone called Kiki the Doula.

A birthing person sounds like they are doing it NOW. If a person is looking back, then they aren't birthing are they. They are s person who has given birth.

Definitely sounds like it's the baby rembering their own birth!

Who needs clarity of language eh? When something more important is at stake ie obliterating the word woman and describing us by our bodily (reproductive) functions instead.
