Spero · 21/06/2020 23:30

I'm hosting a meeting via Zoom on 24th June between 8-9pm for anyone who wants to discuss reform/repeal to the GRA.

I think it would be great to have something positive to offer, maybe even a suggested draft of what new law could look like.

If you want a link to the Zoom meeting, please message me here or DM me on Twitter @SVPhillimore

I have set out some brief background as to how we ended up with the GRA and an agenda here

Thank you so much for the the written t CJ summary. Looked like a very interesting discussion.

I agree the key question for campaigning is to agree the asks. Agree that if another better way is identified that achieves the result for women and girls than repeal could do, then fine. You’re absolutely right that the key thing is to do all the thinking from all angles first to think about what gets the right results because what we have is an anachronistic law and it’s fantastic that people are getting together to really seriously do this thinking. Likewise unfortunately missed this but would love to join another time. Saw your posts on Twitter too but again too late! Thank you for the summary. Have been lurking for ages and finally reregistered for this - reading all the feminism board posts peaked me a while back, and now with the JKR debacle I am Out and Speaking.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 26/06/2020 07:16

Excellent summary. I will DM you email to get involved/let you know my skill set. Thank you again for this initiative.

stumbledin · 26/06/2020 23:54

Hi again

Have a similar question to before. Do you want the link to your write of the meeting shared, or are you keeping this mumsnet only as with the meeting.

thanks

glad it went well and you will be meeting again!

I just tried to read the Medium post, But it says your account has been suspended? Sad

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 27/06/2020 00:00

I've just tried to read the medium write up and it says the account is under investigation or has violated medium rules.

Which looks an awful lot like silencing women to me.

bishopgiggles · 27/06/2020 00:00

spero looks like Medium have taken down your writeup Angry

bishopgiggles · 27/06/2020 00:01

ha, crossposts - look at what we're all trying to do on a Friday night!

Apollo440 · 27/06/2020 00:03

Yes looks like the TRAs have stomped on this immediately. They can't abide the thought of women discussing matters that affect them directly.

7Days · 27/06/2020 00:07

Medium have taken it down, it seems.

7Days · 27/06/2020 00:09

Goody Spero turned my cows milk sour.

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/06/2020 00:11

WTF wow women aren't even allowed to talk to each other now.
Thank you Spero for all your hard work FlowersWine

Wolfgirrl · 27/06/2020 00:12

There is a protest in London on July 4th to prevent the government dropping the reforms to the GRA. Is there going to be any kind of counter protest does anybody know?

stumbledin · 27/06/2020 00:18

Disgusting that medium should have removed this.

This endless attempt to silence women's voices and intimidate them makes it look like they are too scared to have the conversation, because it if did happen they know they would not win the arguement.

So like all frightened bullies they resort to underhand tactics and censoring.

Angryresister · 27/06/2020 00:44

Sorry I missed the meeting and that you have been censored. Is FB a possibility?

Spero · 27/06/2020 00:57

Will be setting up another website tomorrow to gather commentary, resources and future plans.

Thanks for the archive link Spero and all yours and the groups efforts Brew

Reading the summary, I’m not really sure what Medium had an issue with Confused or are women not allowed to practice their democratic rights now?

TorchesTorches · 27/06/2020 06:54

Thank you for the alternative link. I too clicked on the medium link to find the error message. This redoubled the reason to act!

ThePurported · 27/06/2020 08:23

Thank you Spero Brew

bishopgiggles · 27/06/2020 08:46

Thank you. This practical focus (just reading at the moment) is what I need to concentrate my mind rather than worry about all the separate issues.

Spero · 27/06/2020 10:39

I am baffled as to any legitimate reason Medium could have to to take down that post. It is not abusive, not derogatory etc. It's protected political speech. O well! I think banning it has probably doubled its readership.

OP posts:
ChattyLion · 27/06/2020 11:25

Christ. Medium have taken that absolutely anodyne account of a women’s meeting down. Confused

Why can’t women talk about laws that affect them? Why can’t they write and publish about laws that affect them? Creepy authoritarians are not actually in charge of dictating everyone else’s politics and they need to fuck off and get an actual life, everyone facilitating their bullshit by bowing to their demands is just as bad.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 27/06/2020 13:41

Thanks Spero for the alternative link.

My take away from Medium doing this is

  1. Medium is deeply misogynistic
  2. Never read or click on any medium articles ever again.
Spero · 27/06/2020 14:00

'Absolutely anodyne' sad face emoji.

OP posts:
Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 27/06/2020 15:17

Sadly we're reduced to being absolutely anodyne or we're not allowed to talk at all. And even then, women are often still not allowed to talk, except in secret.

It's so very depressing.
