GRA Birth Cert - are previous records destroyed?

When a birth cert is changed under the GRA, what happens to the original birth registration entry (i.e. the one in the district birth registry book)?

Is it effectively 'tippexed' out, or does the original entry remain with a note added to reflect that there has been a change in the box marked 'sex'?

I don't know what happens to the original birth registration entry. From my experience, other services either create a new account and link it to my old one (the very first thing in my GP notes is 'this patient is FtM transgender, this is his previous NHS number' so they can find my historical notes) or they update my details with an addendum added somewhere to show that my information has changed. No service has ever just tipexxed the details out - the paper trails to prove ID are too important.

No problem! I know it doesn't fully answer your question, but I hope it helps.
