Stats on transwomen murders/being the murderer

I saw on a thread recently that transwomen have carried out more murders in the UK than been victims, but I can't find it.
A friend's daughter challenged me to back it with a source and I now can't find the thread.
Can anyone please signpost me to the thread or the source?

www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-how-many-trans-people-murdered-uk. Fact check. Transgender people less likely to be murdered than other members of the population.

transcrimeuk.com/category/violent-offences/murderattempted-murder/. Tracks crime committed by transgender people (chiefly transwomen) in the uk.

You'd have to be a bit of number crunching but the sources are reliable

I think there's a piece by Karen Ingala Smith where she spells out, will have a look

OhHolyJesus · 17/06/2020 21:54

Clymene has got it - I kept this from trans day of visibility, which was about remembering trans people who have been murdered. TW commit crime at the same rate as men, it's a male pattern violence problem.

Trans deaths 2019

Of the 331 trans or non-binary people murdered last year, 130 of them were in Brazil. In Brazil, four women are murdered every day. 30 of them were in the US where at least 1600 women were murdered in the same year. One transwoman was murdered in the UK in 2018 where 139 women were murdered. No transwomen were murdered in Australia in 2018, but 63 women were.

Thanks so much everyone I really appreciate it. I don't post often, but read and inwardly absorb everything.
I love and support JKR.

Handy, thank you. I'm mid discussion with a friend who thinks it's terribly exclusionary to say people who menstruate are women. She suggests that I'm inferring people who've had a hysterectomy are not women and how hurtful it is I'd say that. Say what? I said what?🤦‍♀️

Jeanhatchet · 17/06/2020 22:21

I've ridden my bike for 322 women murdered by men who were intimate partners or family members. No transwomen were murdered by intimate partners or family members in the same period. But 2 men who self identify as women and have been placed in the male estate were amongst the murderers. The murdered women were Amy Parsons and Bethany Hill. The murderer of Bethany Hill, Kayleigh Woods, was initially housed in the female prison estate but after being caught in a sex act with a vulnerable female prisoner was returned to the male estate. Woods' treatment of Bethany Hill was insanely brutal. In the case of Amy Parsons she was beaten to death in the shower by her partner when she refused to have sex with him while he was dressed as a woman and wearing women's lingerie and he became annoyed that she wouldn't accept this and planned to leave him.

Thank you Jean. Respect.

NorthernIrishFeminist · 17/06/2020 22:51

Jean I'm so glad you make us remember these women and what happened to them. Is there somewhere where the stories for all these women you ride for are documented

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/06/2020 22:53

Thank you Jean.

Coronacurls · 17/06/2020 22:56

Thank you Jean.

Unsurprisingly friend's DD isn't accepting any of my information, but I didn't really expect her to.

She is very woke. But I said I could provide sources and thank you for helping me to give them to her.

four women are murdered every day

Just to clarify. it's many more than that, at least 10. There are around 4000 murders of women a year. You're referring to murders defined as "a man kills a woman because of her gender" (femicide) rather than the overall female murder rate. It's not a fair comparison because trans murders are all assumed to be because of their gender identity, even when they blatantly aren't.

Sorry I can't find a better source, search result for total numbers of female murders in 2019 clouded by trans articles and articles about femicide.

Wikipedia puts it between 10 and 15 a day though thankfully there seems to be a downward trend.

where at least 1600 women were murdered in the same year. One transwoman was murdered in the UK in 2018 where 139 women were murdered.

Again in both cases the total number of women killed is higher (and still mostly by men). The US total figure is nearly as high as Brazil, though it has a larger population.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 23:15

If you count trans murders as only the ones due to assumed transphobia, as per the femicide definition, the figures in the US would.drop considerably.

To be clear such a definition is rarely possible to prove for either women or transwomen.

It is unlikely that every man who kills his wife does so because of her gender, however this is classed as intimate femicide. There is also:

sexual femicide
honour killing femicide

Thus for example we might consider any case of a prostitute being killed by her client to be femicide, and that this is gender-based violence.

The same would apply to a male prostitute being killed by his client, or to a transwoman prostitute being killed

I took a look at the list here:

www.hrc.org/resources/violence-against-the-transgender-community-in-2019

  1. Dana Martin - no information
2 - Ellie Washtock (born Craig) 'non-binary' killed while investigating his daughter's death, which looks like it was gender-based violence from her cop boyfriend. So it doesn't look like this was gender-based violence.
  1. Jazzaline Ware - actually died of natural causes, so not even murder.
  2. Ashanti Carmon - shot. Sex worker. No arrests so no way to say if this is gender-based.
  3. Claire Legato - shot by mother's boyfriend in argument over stolen check. Not gender-based.
  4. Muhlaysia Booker - shot by man charged with two murders of women. Might be gender-based.
  5. Michelle 'Tamika' Washington, -shot in argument over gun sale. Not gender-based.
  6. Paris Cameron - shot with two gay men. Gender-based though linked to sexuality.
  7. Chynal Lindsey - killed by a man. Motives unclear, had arranged to meet, but no trial yet.
10. Chanel Scurlock - killed after confronting someone over a Facebook page. Doesn't appear to be gender-based? 11. Zoe Spears - sex worker killed by man in rented van who drove up and shot with a shotgun. Motives unclear 12. Brooklyn Lindsey - shot after propositioning man. Gender-based. 13. Denali Berries Stuckey - shot by man who knew him. Deceased had criminal record. No details on motives. 13. Tracy Single - killed by boyfriend. Gender-based. 14. Bubba Walker - house fire. No evidence of a criminal offence. 15. Kiki Fantroy, - shot after being propositioned for sex and another member of group being shot. Gender-based? 16. Jordan Cofer, - not out as 'transmale', shot by mass shooter brother. Not transgender-based in that 'he' was perceived as female by the killer. 17. Pebbles Doe - found dead in car. No motives 18. Bailey Reeves - killed in crossfire. Not gender-based. 19. Bee Love Slater - possibly killed as witness-tampering attack over murder of another man. Does not seem to be genderbased. 20. Jamagio Jamar Berryman, - killed by partner. Gender-based 21. Itali Marlowe - killed by partner. Gender-based. 22. Brianna “BB” Hill - no information on motives 23. Nikki Kuhnhausen - killed by sexual partner. Gender-based. 24. Yahira Nesby ? 25. Unnamed transwoman - shot by security guard for shooting at him. Not gender-based 26. Layleen Polanco - died of epilepsy in prison after attacking other prisoner/staff. Not murder or gender-based.

In general 48% of women's murders in the Uk are domestic, and only 8% of men.

It seems that transwomen murders are more likely to be 'gender-based' than men's murders, but not more likely than women's murder. For women 'hatred of women' is not defined as a motive, but it's constantly claimed for transwomen.
