  1. 11 years old.

And not only has he allowed his 11 year old child to go down this path, he also felt the need to post on social media about it.

I just feel so sad for that poor kid.

11 is so young. Why do these parents not give their child space and privacy away from the media?

Anyone can become a parent, even someone I wouldn’t leave in charge of the cat.

LouHotel · 16/06/2020 23:08

Theres a different between letting a child identify as they choose and medicating, breast binding, diagnosing and trying to gaslight a child into truly believing they've changed their sex.

I think we should be careful about commenting on individuals, especially children but I agree that he's platforming him.

Melia100 · 16/06/2020 23:12

I feel sorry for the child too, but I don't think we should be clicking links to info about the child, in the interests of their privacy.

11 seems so little and so young, I'm not sure making the child the spotlight so soon is wise. Why can't anything be private anymore?

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 16/06/2020 23:25

Yeah, it’s hard enough to desist when everyone at school knows your business, imagine it being out all over the tabloids.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/06/2020 23:34

I'm always amazed by how mature and articulate young trans children are in discussing their gender identity; the specifics of their medical journey, emotional status, ideology of identity politics etc.

If it wasn't real you'd be forgiven for thinking they'd been reading a script written by adults with a vested interest.

I’m confident my 11 old would be able to discuss this in a mature articulate way if this was her issue. She does so with her issues around disability with no problem. Not all 11 year olds are idiots.

Very true... but where will they draw the line? Once you’ve said to your child that they are a boy/girl, when do you make them stop?

I feel sorry for the child too, but I don't think we should be clicking links to info about the child, in the interests of their privacy.

Given that the child’s own father shared it to more than half a million people on social media and it’s now all over the press I would say that ship has sailed.

I made no suggestion whatsoever that "all 11 year olds are idiots".

It was simply a general observation that all young trans children (including those who are very, very young) seem to have a vocabulary when describing themselves that is substantially more mature than their years.

Obviously, it's to be expected that they would have an awareness and understanding beyond that of a non trans child - similar to a child with a specific medical condition or disability.

Heygirlheyboy · 17/06/2020 00:00

Well I have just seen a tweet with a pic of a newborn saying '5 years after this pic she told me she was a girl' Hmm Cue hundreds of likes etc. Five years old!!! Shock

scotsheather · 17/06/2020 00:02

If it was my daughter I'd be cool with it as long as she didn't end up on cross sex hormones or have surgery on a healthy body, or sold the idea she can turn into a man.

Either way theres no need for attention seeking on social media.

OldCrone · 17/06/2020 00:48

The child's mother says:

“I am overjoyed to introduce you to my son, Karter. When he was born we thought he was a girl. We were mistaken. He is a boy. A smart, funny, brave, loving, magnificent boy,” she wrote. “Karter is so confident in who he is and was thrilled for me to let everyone know that he’s finally living as his true self. As a boy. As my son. As Karter.

I hope she has explained to her child that it's not possible to change sex.

But this child has been told just that?
Thisismytimetoshine · 17/06/2020 00:51

I wonder why the child was thrilled for me to let everyone know Hmm

Thisismytimetoshine · 17/06/2020 00:51

His mother sounds nuts.

Oliversmumsarmy · 17/06/2020 00:52

always identified as a boy

What does that even mean.

I have heard “trans” children speak and what they say led them to believe they were trans was just normal growing up.

skql · 17/06/2020 00:58

i can't understand.

how is it possible
letting child identify opposite sex but not letting child believe become opposite sex or in wrong body?
it's like 'yes, you are a boy in girls body'
then how can't expect child going though medical treatment?
i don't think it't some pause button.

sorry for bad english.

I can see why Mumsnet gets accused of being transphobic. Some of the replies in this thread are incredibly judgemental.

It concerns me that these celebs push their kids into the limelight, not only because they are to young to deal with the media attention, but because I feel it helps to ensure the kids can't decide to change their minds at a future point. A number of detransitioners have said that it is harder to say they are no longer trans fun it as to say they are.
