Is there a branch or school of psychotherapy that is based in radical feminism? Just had a Zoom conversation with feminist friends, all exhausted and emotional after the JKR affair and wound-up from writing yet another letter to their MP and Liz Truss, and joking that we all need to see a therapist. And then we began to wonder where one might find a GC therapist.

I know there's a school of thought that says that it doesn't matter what a therapist's personal convictions or beliefs are, but having had what I would now call a borderline abusive experience with a well-known North London psychotherapist who just couldn't cope with my sexuality and feminism, I beg to differ.

Jessica Taylor writes a lot about this. Look up her wbmebsite Victim Focus. There's also a brilliant book about ho messed up psychiatry is in relation to women. I can't remember it's name I'll see if I can find it. But yes. I want a feminist therapist!

Thanks, for the Jessica Taylor heads-up, I'll check it out.

Yes, it would be wonderful to be able to find a really good, radical feminist therapist who wouldn't be terrified by my rage against the patriarchy.

Are there any radfem therapists in the US?

I noticed Jessica Taylor's website now lists accredited therapists who say they agree with her trauma informed, feminist principles.

The therapist’s personal convictions and beliefs are absolutely of importance, as they will be part of the countertransference within the therapeutic relationship. If a therapist (either radfem or gender essentialist) doesn’t acknowledge this within the therapeutic relationship then they are not helping their client.
I realise my point doesn’t help OP particularly, it’s more for lurkers who are considering (or currently in) therapy where issues of countertransference are not acknowledged. It’s difficult for the client to broach this.
