Self id

I may be coming at this from a different angle but I don’t want to take away rights from transgender people but I think that women need spaces and self I’d is open to abuse.

My argument against self I’d is it is not a proportionate response. There are a tiny number of transgender people are they are outnumbered by abusive men.

The concept of self I’d was first used by disabled people. Not one person is now arguing for self ID for us. We are excluded from many public spaces due to them not being accessible. It would make my life easier if I could self ID and get PIP and a blue badge. I understand why they can’t do that because if that was possible everyone would do it. If you are giving people rights there needs to be safeguardeds in place.

I thought this was a different way of putting it. It is irrelevant where or not you think trans women are women when the biggest worry is people who don’t identify as women saying they do.

Thinking about disability is helpful because it helps us understand the problem as one of a conflict of rights.

Most disabilities can be diagnosed in clear ways. (To put it crudely, if somebody is an amputee, or partially sighted, then it is clear that he or she is disabled.) The trouble with an internal sense of self 'as a woman' is that it is highly subjective. Even 'being perceived as a woman' relies on the subjective judgment of others.

The problem with it, is it's not true.

The definition of a woman, is not a man with gender dysphoria.

Disabilities exist. Changing sex doesn't.

How can bring "perceived" as a woman make you one? We are all perceived as different things by different people all day long; intelligent, daft, rich, poor, happy, sad, - it has no bearing on the material reality of what we actually are.
We exist outside of other people's perceptions.

Hello. :)

Can I ask you to describe what rights might be taken away from transgender people?

Antibles · 16/06/2020 14:56

That's the nub of it datun.

The whole ideology is bogus.

It's like a white person claiming to be black because they feel black inside.

Very true. And yes, my life too would be considerably easier if I didn't have to pass the high standards that limit blue badges to only those who most need them, and I could just self ID. But I too understand why, and have the capacity to protect and care about others as well as myself.
