You want my honest opinion? They're only angry about the Sun story because Rowling's ex admitted on record to hitting her, so now they can't say that she was making it up.

If they had any concern for her wellbeing, or indeed for common decency, they'd be condemning those within their own ranks who've been flinging violent threats at her on Twitter.

Agreed. Their actions speak louder than their words.

I thought the TRA line aimed at people like Nimco Ali was that talking about FGM was triggering for transpeople and a sign of privilege.

I spotted that article too. One of the things I've noticed about the Guardian is that some sections are more obviously pro-TRA than others - the Comment pages are very pro-TRA, for example. But the FGM piece was in the Global Development section of the website (which isn't in the print edition), and that section runs a lot of articles on issues affecting women and girls.
