What an absolute load of hypocritical damage limitation. Guardian story, of course.

Hypocrisy to a man.

SophocIestheFox · 16/06/2020 06:42

Stonking fucking hypocrisy presumably motivated by being embarrassed by the Sun making it so easy to draw parallels between one violent man abusing JKR and a whole load of others doing it.

And obviously this: They're only angry about the Sun story because Rowling's ex admitted on record to hitting her, so now they can't say that she was making it up

Weasly and self serving, and they still managed to slip in a stiletto to the ribs by making sure we all keep focused on JKR’s “anti trans” views, which are of course nothing of the sort.

LangClegTheBeardedVulture · 16/06/2020 06:52

Look at last list of signatories. Christine Burns and James Morton In particular are the architects of the self ID movement. Burns helped sneak the GRA into being. They are lynchpin strategists of the TRA movement and much smarter than the average danger hair student or anime-avatar on Twitter.
They know the Twitter abuse is being widely shared and that people are looking at the shit Rowling is getting for her essay, reading the essay (especially after The Sun front page) and going “WTAF”. It’s 100% pure strategy cooked up by the people driving this tanker of raw bullshit through objective reality.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/06/2020 07:26

Yes. That list of signatories is a list of master manipulators who are responsible for the situation we now find ourselves in. If you wanted a list of who to blame, there it is.

Thanks for showing us who you are, yet again.

Binterested · 16/06/2020 08:01

What absolute creeps.

Ha ha ha, they're bricking it because they've been caught in bed with the Sun.

Dances · 16/06/2020 09:02

Does anyone have that link to the meeting that was transcribed with the various actors above detailing strategy? I cant remember what it was - thanks

truthisarevolutionaryact · 16/06/2020 09:31

The leaders of the mob caught out and desperately trying to bluff their way out of any responsibility. Hypocrites one and all.

RoyalCorgi · 16/06/2020 09:35

They're only angry about the Sun story because Rowling's ex admitted on record to hitting her, so now they can't say that she was making it up.

Exactly. They're furious. One notes that not one of them has bothered to condemn the numerous threats of sexual violence JKR has received on Twitter.

I'm angry with the Guardian (then, when am I not, these days?) They're allowing the TRAs to control the narrative, making out that they have some kind of moral high ground, when in fact they are responsible for the most vile abuse against JKR.

SunsetBeetch · 16/06/2020 09:42

The hypocrisy is sickening. They can all fuck off. Until they condemn the violent threats thrown at JKR by their own side, they can keep on fucking off.

louisthetrumpetswan · 16/06/2020 09:50

Aside from anything else, they've spectacularly missed the point.

The Sun's piece centred the male perpetrator of violence towards a woman. They have been advocating that for many years, being particularly vicious in the days after she published her article.

I don't recall any responses to JK's piece asking her to 'prove it' saying that they didn't believe it. On the contrary, everyone instinctively knew it was true because domestic violence is so common.

They're desperately trying to find a line in the sand that makes their threats of violence okay and his not.

And yes of course it's the Guardian that's letting them control the narrative because they is the Most Oppressed People Ever dot com.

DidoLamenting · 16/06/2020 09:53

I'm impressed that Paris Lees didn't sign it. Paris Lees called out the attacks on twitter.

Siablue · 16/06/2020 09:56

The comments of the Guardian Twitter feed are beautiful. I am pleased to see that so many people know gaslighting when they see it.

Such a smart tactic to piss off the Sun. They knew exactly what they were doing publishing that article and they are probably going to do a full campaign now against self I’d.

I feel sorry for transgender people now. With friends like these they really don’t need enemies.

Siablue · 16/06/2020 09:58

Yes it is very notable that Paris was not on the list. She knew where this abuse would lead and was the only one to call it out,

Dances · 16/06/2020 09:59

Becky Kaufmann was encouraging people to report 'stickering' as Hate Incidents, at the Scottish Trans Conference. These would be the 'women don't have penises/adult human female/etc' stickers. Becky Kauffman also described how they targeted the Prison Service in Scotland. Becky Kauffman is a former prison officer from the US and has fathered 8 children

Was very keen to up the numbers of 'hate incidents ' which as opposed to hate crimes, you don't need any evidence of, nor is it investigated, it's all for the purposes of propaganda.

Dances · 16/06/2020 10:09

Missing from list:
Stonewall
Pink News
Gendered Intelligence
LGBT Youth
Mermaids

You want my honest opinion? They're only angry about the Sun story because Rowling's ex admitted on record to hitting her, so now they can't say that she was making it up.

Yes.

This!

Enderthedragon · 16/06/2020 10:27

Paris may be many things but I don't think they are stupid. Paris knows and can see what is happening here. They have already publicly had a word with Jameela Jamil on Twitter about her use of language towards women who don't down to the TWAW dogma, and I have seen a slight shift change in the way they speak about women with concerns etc. The thing is, of all the famous transwoman, Paris probably 'passes' the best and has made a living from being a transwoman but also now as a 'woman' (Pantene ads etc) . But Paris knows that if the whole thing comes very publicly crashing down, it will take people like Paris with it.

OunceOfFlounce · 16/06/2020 10:31

I think it's so long after the fact a lot less people are going to hear about this.

I also kind of wonder whether they're doing it just to placate themselves. So people like Owen Jones or whatever can tell themselves they're not the bad guys.

Will go back and read the thread now.

Freespeecher · 16/06/2020 10:49

I also saw the Sun reporting on a petition to have the Graun shut down as its founder made some money from a plantation that used slaves (and the Manchester Guardian, as was, had some very anti-Lincoln pieces).

It's more a dig than anything but if the Guardian overreaches in its criticisms then it risks being hoist by its own petard.

OliveKitteridgeAgain · 16/06/2020 12:03

The Guardian also had a piece in this morning with the headline:

"FGM: Why Coronavirus has placed millions more girls at risk".

I thought the TRA line aimed at people like Nimco Ali was that talking about FGM was triggering for transpeople and a sign of privilege. Surely the use of the word "girls" in this article should be condemned by the people who wrote the letter attacking the Sun. Doesn't OJ condemn his own paper for discussing female genitals in the context of girls and women, to the exclusion of transmen and trans women? What's the "mentruators" equivalent for FGM discussion?

LangClegTheBeardedVulture · 16/06/2020 19:35

@Dances

You mean this one?

contactusdeletus · 16/06/2020 19:58

Why don't trans rights activists do a big piece for the Guardian, where they finally denounce the abusive tactics employed by so many of their supporters online? Including those in their own community. Why don't they come up with a "TERF"-like acronym for these violent misogynists and homophobes, and vow to police their hatred themselves?

Imagine if we lived in a world where if a trans activist threatened to punch a "TERF" or told a woman to choke on a dick, ten or twenty of their fellow activists jumped on that Tweet immediately and disowned it. Imagine if they stopped silencing people and actually respected women's concerns?

Imagine if trans activists called out the misogyny and homophobia in their movement as often as feminists call out white feminism, internalised misogyny, and homophobia within our own movement.

Show me that headline.
